Anyhow Shoaib definitely will be an asset if he stays fit. Any other bowler would have been trashed for more runs in the ending overs, he bowled pretty smartly actually.

Anyone recall any innings where Jadeja contributed in a match-altering manner with the bat? I recall him saving total embarassment in a defeat, but I'd rather have Harbhajan bat for me in a situation like this.

Jadeja's dismissal was the turning point today in the last phase of the game .(Well Raina had gotten stuck till then too, but..)

Edit: Meant while playing for India. Domestically he might have done that, but so has Praveen Kumar a few times.

Yeah, Ashwin is a better spin bowling all rounder than Jadeja.

His batting ain't good enough for the slog overs of an ODI .. In fact, he is the last batsman I would want in that situation. Honestly, I would even bat Nehra ahead of him. His running between the wickets is a joke.. He can't run all that fast at all for a youngster, his catching is atrocious.. The only reason people rave about his fielding is because he has a rocket arm but if that was the criteria, we should give His Highness AA a go. He will definitely bat and catch better than Ravi Jadeja...

I do believe Ashwin is the man for the job, for now and the next year. He's a recognised batsman for TN in first-class, a very talented spinner (with shades of Mendis in him) and has played three seasons of domestic cricket. fits the bill nicely as a limited-overs all-rounder, as a striker/builder at seven, and a full bowler. In fact, he's a very under-rated spinner in India, and a lot better than those two very average left-armers playing for India so often. He's also done reasonably well all round in his only ODI so far. He's one of many current TN players good for limited-overs cricket, although he'll need someone like Niranjan Shah backing him for a regular spot in the XI.

And Praveen Kumar as a regular for ODIs? While he's a decent third seamer and more than useful at seven-eight-nine, at a time when fielding is an area of concern, he shouldn't even be on the bench. There are better options like Vinay or Irfan, who are at least safe on the field. Let's just hope the Indian selectors pick the team as a professional, match-winning unit, and not an academy for promising youngsters.

I've been off the boards for some time, but what's your opinion on Mohammed Aamer? He's shown a lot of promise, for someone so young and new, and seems a far better option than Sohail Tanvir. He may have it in him to last long in the team, but like all of those young players, needs the support of the coach, captain and strike bowler to grow. Seems a genuinely good discovery for Pakistan.

Loved the way Akhtar was Shut up. I just read why Shoaib Malik came back into the team. Reason I guess is that around the arena there is a pressure on Pak to have more English speaking people in the team . Today a senseless match between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Though besides this I have a question. Shouldn't the world cup be a 6 or 8 national Asia Cup. The other teams in Asia Cup besides this can be Afghanistan, UAE, Honk Kong, Oman, Nepal, Malaysia. Oman and Afghanistan has actually qualified for a 6 nation Asia Cup but it was scrapped . Asia is the best place to develop cricket. Growing economies, getting better in sports. Cricket should be there. It's also pathetic on the part of BCCI that they are sending a team for Asian Games. Bloody politicians wuin everything for money. Sports is not just money BCCI

I don't know man. The only thing worse that having the BCCI in charge of the national cricket team is having the IOA in charge of them. Kalmadi doesn't want the Indian cricket team in the Asian Games for national pride, he wants them in to lend credibility to his administration that has done nothing for Indian sport except line their pockets by periodically 'renovating' same old tired Delhi when it comes to hosting events like the Commonwealth, Asian or SAARC Games.
