Nope, 'fraid not. You must have control over the further disposal of the ball and of your own body movement. Check this out:Bloody Hell Jonesy gets a wicket then takes a superb catch! But they give Hayden out From what I heard that should have been given out.
The runs only DON'T count if the fielder took the catch. If the fielder does what Jones did, it's considered a dropped catch so any runs taken during that time are counted as they are in any dropped catch. It's in that same link i provided above.however what baffles me is that 1 run was given... surely it should have been 6 or Out????
Iam sure your right Top_Cat but from what I have been able to gather (listing on radio) they said that if Jones had the time to take the catch hold it for a few seconds and still have the time to beware of what he is about to do (step over the rope) and get rid of the ball in a tidy fashion ie he knew where he was throwing it etc... then surely he is in control??Originally posted by Top_Cat

S.Jones has left the ground and been taken to a local hospital for scans on his knee.....Originally posted by Rich2001
S.Jones, has been stretchered off the field after damaging his knee while attemping to prevent a four.
Jones, down on one knee to slide on the boundary and his knee brings up a load of turf with it, Jones is down in serious pain and looks unlikly to return any time soon.
The injury leaves Nasser weak in the bowling department now with only Caddick, Hoggard, White and Giles to bowl out a very strong Aussie batting line up.
Not in the opinion of the umpire. And guess who's opinion counts? And the catch should have counted, he had enough control over the ball.
Easier said than done, mate. He was virtually on the line when he took it. There was no way he could have stopped himself from going over the line so he was left with only two choices;Iam sure your right Top_Cat but from what I have been able to gather (listing on radio) they said that if Jones had the time to take the catch hold it for a few seconds and still have the time to beware of what he is about to do (step over the rope) and get rid of the ball in a tidy fashion ie he knew where he was throwing it etc... then surely he is in control??
Yep very true Top_Cat, oh well it didn't go our way and Hayden has made full advantage of his let off.Originally posted by Top_Cat

Anyone who knows the 'Gabba will tell you it's quite a spicy pitch early on the first day of a match. But anyone who REALLY knows will tell you that it flattens out into a perfect batting wicket after lunch for the next 3 days............I guess that little tidbit escaped the English brains trust. Sure it LOOKS green early on but after a while, there's not much movement in the air or off the pitch for the quicks. And what was the logic again of putting Australia into bat after winning the toss ? Was it overcast or the conditions really juicy in the morning ?
