He was great in the 2016-17 home season.

Honestly Ishant and Umesh are both all right at the moment. Bhuvi-Shami(if he's fit)-Umesh-Hardik would be my attack in England but wouldn't mind Ishant
Probably going to be Bhuvi-Bumrah-Ishant actually

The Irish setup came of age in the pre T20 era, didn't it? Not much hope for Afghanistan going forward if all they get to play is hit out.

If global cricket administration truly cared a fig for these teams, they would incorporate the more promising ones among various domestic first class leagues.

Well a lot of these guys are going for County cricket this summer. If BCCI and ACB can arrange for these guys to play in Indian FC as well, that will certainly help.

Ishant has turned into a work horse who can bowl a lot of overs with some degree of consistency now.
We don't have another quick bowler who can do that; the rest of them flag as the day gets longer.

Got to say, that's a very poor showing from Afghanistan. That scorecard is embarrassing for them, we've got to be honest and fair here. It's simply not good enough. India only got 24 runs more than I predicted pre-match. But the Afghanistan batting is unforgivably woeful to be honest. We have to query whether they are really up to test match standard. Which seems harsh, but that's a real walloping for a first game. There's no shame in conceding 474 with the ball away from home of course and their bowling improved a lot after 2 sessions, but Afghanistan's batting is incredibly frail at this level based on that showing. They don't really have that much batting at all. I think against England on a seaming wicket they would be in big trouble with the bat, so I do wonder what surface they are going to be able to get enough runs to potentially win on.

That being said, I think it's best to wait until they've played about 5 tests before passing total judgement whether they are completely out of their depth or not. Very bad start, at least they can only really improve from this point.

They do have some players in there, mainly bowlers that are test standard.. I do worry though about just how many batsman are going to be averaging 30 or more for them long term.

Afghanistan were just like a rabbit in the headlights in this game. You can't artificially cause extra competitiveness in my view. Otherwise it gets boring. Part of the beauty of cricket and other sports is you can have a big underdog or big favourite etc. A little bit of financial and grassroots help is good though obviously

Wafadar and Hastamullah the only (somewhat) positives.

I hope wafadar has a good career, lots of meme potential there.
Ahmadzai bowled 19-7-51-3. That's a very good return. He's only 25 years old. Obviously he didn't get up to much with the bat, but those bowling figures are actually very good. Excellent in fact.

I know he has better figures mate, but to my eyes Wafadar looked the better bowler.

I was going to ask when the last two day test was. Anyone remember than match SA against Zim last year? Anyone at all?
Haha yeah, all that fuss over it being a four-day test and it was over before tea on the second day anyway.
