No, I meant the very specific insurance for direct covid cancellation and covid related cancellation. I would have assumed covid cancellations are already pretty high premium so surely they could have bargained for more of an umbrella coverage, especially since they went through last summer without a single covid incident.

"From an event cancellation perspective, COVID-19 cover is not possible," according to Carl Baxter, a member of the sports and entertainment team at Miller, a specialist insurance and reinsurance broker operating in Lloyd’s of London and other international markets.
"Communicable disease (even excluding COVID-19) is also not available," Baxter adds.
From the BCCI perspective there’s very little incentive to pay the ECB anything. They can literally walk away without doing anything. It’s probably why they’ve worded the media release regarding the one off test as a favour.
Yeah, but the BCCI would worry about the optics of calling it a forfeit. Which is why I guess they will comb the fine print of the insurance agreement to figure out what to call it. My bet is on a covid cancellation clause that is actually covered in the insurance.

The IPL generates $510mn in revenue annually from just the broadcast rights alone. On top of that, you have the gate receipts and branding (VIVO IPL) adverts. This money is not pocketed by Jay Shah, it is distributed amongst franchisees (who employ hundreds of players and support staff), state associations, cricketing companies etc. ergo providing employment to at least a thousand people directly. On top of that the BCCI uses this money to fund the rest of its cricketing activities all along the country from grassroot to FC, List-A levels providing employment to thousands more and will be paying nearly a ₹1000cr in Income Tax this year which only became possible because of the IPL.
