It is good that englad is tryin new faces instead of mediocre bowlers like croft (For lucky: cork..lol), irani, salisbury.

What happened to Schlofeld (spelling? ) i watched him...and he was atleast better than salisbury.

Also wht abt Owais shah and chris silverwood. I dont know why they dont get a chance.

Also i remember watching Dean Headley (During ashes? ) ...and i thought he bowled well. But he seems to have totally disappeared.

Any reason?

I think that the reason that England make the selections they do is that they know a heck of a lot more about cricket than certain pundits.

That's why they have tried to achieve consistency in selection and not just gone for the typical knee-jerk (with the emphasis on 'jerk') reactions of old.

Unfortunately, when injuries get in the way, the entire balance tends to go out of the question. That's when certain players who had, say, a fine reputation in the past come into the reckoning.

A side has to have a particular shape based upon what they are trying to achieve. You don't make changes just for the sake of it - you change a side with a particular aim in mind.

That could well be because you want to have a look at a player who is in good touch in the championship or who you think might achieve the step up in class (Robert Key is a good example), ideally because your first choice for that position is temporarily incapacitated.

Obviously if a player is totally out of form, the place to play himself back into the reckoning is in a lower standard of cricket, not in the test arena.

Jayasuriya's better than Salisbury ;)... He hasn't recreated the wicket-taking form that he's had in the past.

Shah - dunno... wrong county I guess. Hasn't done much wrong for England and has only really played in crushing defeats...
Silverwood - Not really international class.

Retired through injury

No kidding..Jayasuriya is defintely better than salisbury. Jayasuriya has troubled indian batsmen on spin friendly wickets...but salisburied was real crap. When he toured india in 93 he made that other moron tufnell look good.

But one thing abt salisbury...tht guy sure knows how to bat...he is like dion nash...somehow sticks to the crease. May be he should have developed his batting. I also felt his action wasnt that good.

I havent see him bowl..but read that he has pace...so whats wrong with him?

Wasnt headley a good bowler ? I thought he bowled well against australia. Well it is real bad luck for england then.

He also made Graeme Hick (top wicket-taker on that tour) look like Shane Warne. Almost.

Um, not really. Average late-tail player. Not much different to Warne with the bat. Probably worse.

Not real pace... hardly more than 130-5 kph.

Yeah, it is a shame. He never really got a decent run due to injuries and then they forced him out the game

Eddie... Scorpio... Drop It, please...

You're both established members, there's no need to act like a pair of very young children - you obviously aren't going to come to an agreement here so I suggest we leave the subject here instead of stating and re-stating and getting more and more personal.

This thread is about the Fourth Test

Keep it that way

I dont think i am getting personal here. Obviosly in any forum ppl will take digs at each others beliefs and fav players.

That doesnt mean you become a cry baby and start calling names like he did. I dont think you can equate me with him.

I came up with arguments and facts ..while all he has done was either get offended or call names. So it might be better if you take issue with him. Any way i will drop this matter..i really dont want to hurt a old man any more..heh..jeez what a whiner

Yes, I am aware of that - look at the times I've made jokes about Reuben's "intelligence" (sorry mate..). But it doesn't get this deep and protracted and continuous.

I'm not going to try and differentiate between who has called names/thrown insults the most/first, but it has gone both ways. And it's not going to any more.

Come on guys, as Neil said cool it.

Get back to discussing what should be a very close and very exciting 4th test :)

I certainly understand that what happened wasnt a pretty sight. But as moderators you two must see who provokes and throws insults..

I reacted to name calling. Show me a place where i resorted to insults instead of arguments.

I definetly would drop this issue. But i dont like being equated with some one who openly calls me a moron and dares to be banned..

how abt this..shall we call the us and the taliban and tell them both..both of u wont agree..so drop the fight .(Not a grt example..no offense meant to any one..just a similarity i found)

I am not chomping at the bit like him..just dont like being equated with him. hope this makes sense

Scorpio, dropping it doesn't involve a further intrasigent post denouncing responsibility. Dropping it is dropping it and no further comments to Eddie.

Let's get back to what this fourm is all about. The great and wonderful game of Cricket!

Well..james...not to get too picky. A poster openly calls the other an moron and dares to be banned. He doesnt get any warning..while the other is asked to drop it.

Shall i alwys finish an argument with a insult so that the mods can step in ask both to drop as it is not going anywhere?

FYI...i even got a sarcastic U2U from eddie..so much for maturity.

At the end of the day you guys run this place...so its ur call..just that this is setting a wrong precedent.

Hope this makes sense..yeah...i am done with this. Though i hope i didnt hurt eddie very badly..heh

I think its best that we all leave it here.

I'm closing this and will be starting another 4th test thread to continue discussion.

Hopefully things go well with that thread :)

Ok, agreed Scorpio. I've re-opened the thread.

If you and Eddie are prepared to cool it down and get back to the topic we'll keep this topic open.

lol..i just deleted my post...thinking you had made up mind abt closing this thread. Anyway thx for listening.

I sent a U2U to u.Check that. Definitely would be interested in a few things.

Cheers

Certainly a better choice than Rikki Clarke, anyway. Or Ramprakash or Ward.

I think that it will be the same team as at Headingley with Trescothick in for Key and Irani for Flintoff, with Harmison, Cork and Key missing out.

What Steve Harmison has to do to get in the team is beyond me..
