What, in the whole squad??
They dropped McSweeney (25) who is the only Australian player this series who is under 30.

Of the reserves, Boland is 35 and then there were 4 "young uncapped" players Webster (31), Abbott (32), Doggett (30) and Inglis (29)

Well Webster isn't getting selected over Marsh as he couldnt do a Konstas. In BBL tonight they used 6 bowlers and he wasn't one of them and then he made 3 off 5 balls batting #7 😉

Thanks, that's quite something. They obviously have a real problem with succession planning here

Whatever it takes!!!
Look, BBL form is obviously the most important criteria for Aus test team selection. Why not chuck in Chris Green over Lyon?

Looked up Konstas recent form and it's sizzling.

Excellent call from AUS selectors to swap someone struggling - relatively - with a confident pick. Someone who also scored a century against Indians in the tour match.

Just looking at some of the Aussie season, including the Aus-Ind A matches. Any reason why Fergus O'Neill isn't in contention? Has recent form and an excellent record already...

Only bowls 125-130. Sam Cook syndrome, though he's even slower than Cook.

India are in a bad spot selection wise. They won't drop their poor performing batters, so they need to add batting depth at the tail - but they also can't go in with four bowlers given Bumrah needs a break and you can expect at least one bowler to struggle since everyone bar Bumrah run hot and cold. So I think they have to just go in with both Sundar and Jadeja and three seamers. Harsh on Reddy who has been great with the bat, but he's not good enough to bowl enough overs, and India aren't gonna drop the undroppable bats. So I don't see any other way they can balance the team.

So they select an opener but Bailey quoted as still considering moving a middle order bat to open :censored:

"Bailey said there had been "preliminary chats" within the Australia team hierarchy about who might fill the now vacant opening role alongside Khawaja, and would not rule out shifting a middle-order batter to the top of the order"

Not sure who ? Head is in the perfect slot , they won't ask Carey to ever open, maybe have some fun and get Marsh to open?

If Inglis opens I'll think of giving up watching cricket until all selectors are fired.

These guys played for Australia, how can they seriously think a WK that has never batted higher than 6 in FC can debut as a test opener against Bumrah

This continuous lack of respect for the opening position is driving me nuts. We've had specialised openers for 145 years but now they think anyone can do it.

We've actually had more converted openers do well than specialists in the last thirty years. Katich, Watson, Khawaja, even Langer - all converted openers. Only Hayden and Warner are specialists who have had established Test careers since 2000. Hughes goes in that bucket too I suppose.

If Inglis opens and doesn't succeed then the selectors should be dropped. This just looks straight up panic and there's no reason for it. Konstas or Webster at six in place of a hobbling Marsh is the straight forward change. Complementing the replacement of Haze with Boland. But dropping your opener, after playing him out of position, then picking an opener in the squad only to play a wk batsman who's never opened before is just not an outcome of a logical thought process.
