*Official* 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 13 - 17 Feb 2021

Hardly. It would be ludicrous to call Pant a specialist batsman. As it is, he is just about survinving as a shoddy wicketkeeper batsman because he has license to hit. And hitting is all he can do, that too against spinners - I've never seen him hit pace bowling.
Were you in a coma when India went to Australia? And everybody has the license to hit. Pant just tends to do that better than most batsmen on the team.

And he has displayed a solid enough defense at this point of his career to not just be called a "hitter". His defense even at the end of the day's play yesterday was very solid with the ball doing plenty. And in general plays proper cricketing shots when he does look to score, to go along with plenty of improvised ones. His cameo at the end of the day was HUGE to wrestle the momentum back to India after Rohit and Rahane fell in succession. Talk of dropping him, even with his questionable keeping skills, is asinine at this point. He has been the team's most valuable batsmen in the last 2 series'.

Batting first is such a humongous luxury, something India rarely ever gets to do against England in Tests. That revival by Rohit and Rahane would've never been possible if batting second and burdened by the opposition's score on this pitch. Now they can go for a 350+ score and be in a very strong position to dictate the match. Toss is everything.

Pant's a proper player, IMHO.

Yeah, he scores quickly, but he does so with that economy of movement and seemingly that extra fraction of a second that signify class to even the most casual of observers.

The cut he got off the mark with today was dreamy time. Laraesque and there's no higher compliment.

Mediocre keeper tho, but.

This game is a virtual semifinal for India (lose and they can't make the final).

Virat in World Cup semifinals:

2011: 9
2015: 1
2019: 1

Now he'll probably go and score a genius chanceless 100 in the 2nd innings with the ball turning square.
gambhiring with an extra safety net - impressive! ?

Yeah I've seen enough to rate him ahead of BJ and QDK with the bat. Might be behind Rizwan though.

Could easily see him ending up in the side as a bat if they find a decent keeper who can bat who isn't at the end of his career. Just oozes class.

Once again, Pant has been reckless. He could just have easily been dismissed in single figures. Problem is, if Pant scores runs tomorrow then he'll be backed unconditionally for 5 years. God knows hes been backed long enough.

Any bets on him dropping 10+ catches? Though I'm Indian, it was a pleasure to Foakes keep. I hope Pant drops a few tomorrow, we're winning this game anyway. His poor keeping has to be shown up. I'd go for Saha or even Kl Rahul over him, if we want batting, as KL is easily a better Test batsman
Pant is like flowing water behind the stumps, a perfect whirlwind of athletic movement! KL "strike rate doesn't matter" Rahul and WP "DROPPED CATCH" Saha are like the diarehha that comes onto pant's namesake after a nightly intake of bajil behind the stumps!

The Pantster's iconic Barrel role pull shot off Josh Hazlewood is THE iconic shot of this indian generation! It will define the masses like dhoni's helicopter shot! You do not deserve to wear lord pant's soggied britches!

I feel India needs atleast 400 in 1st innings. This match is evenly poised at this moment.
Defintely need 400, Eng has the best in-form root, stokes and a LOT of all rounders.
If each score 20-30, they can easily score 300+ and this pitch is not a minefield yet..
