What is the ideal definition of poor pitch ?
IMO that pitch where all the 4 innings score are < 250.

And please don't give me definition that ideal pitch should have something for all when many test in ENG/SA/NZ finish inside 4 days with spinners having no role at all.

I'm seeing a proper dustbowl in India after a long time. This is a tougher pitch to bat on than the one in which O'Keefe got 12 wickets.

Really nice to see Foakes doing well. I don't know how England fit him in the side moving forwards but there's definitely a Test quality player there.
They ask him to keep and bat at 7?
He should absolutely be the man in possession with the gloves. Buttler or Bairstow can play as specialist batsman if they're good enough

Rohit Sharma is like one of those top of the range cars which are great performance wise but very unreliable with expensive spare parts.

Haha, fair answer. I'm pretty sure the England camp don't see it that way though - Foakes himself has said he knows he's just keeping the spot warm for Buttler. I think Foakes deserves a run in the side (shouldn't have been dropped last time around) but I don't see England leaving out either Buttler or Pope after this tour to accommodate him.

What utter bull ****.
india didn't get two good sessions on the pitch!!

Rohit took you apart otherwise India was falling apart in the first session itself 85/3 with 60 runs were from Rohit himself.

England took a while to bring on the spinners, India didnt. It was spinning massively when Kohli got out in 1st session and when Rahane and Rohit put on a big partnership in 2nd session. There were so many uncontrolled shots/plays and misses. So cut the lies. England bowled poorly and could not get Rohit out!
Oh yes, come to think of what Swann and Panesar would have done to our batting if they were bowling on this turf.

Whatever it takes!!!
Stop being so precious

NOBODY is saying that India aren’t completely outplaying England in this test but the pitch is rubbish

2 things aren’t mutually exclusive
Lol... The pitch is awesome... And India are outplaying England completely, just like they outplayed us completely last week. These are not mutually exclusive either.

Okay obviously I think the pitch is fine but "awesome" is just as big an exaggeration in the opposite direction, if not moreso. Obviously there are legitimate reasons to think that a pitch turning square from day one is less than absolutely ideal.

The game is better imo when there is a difficult choice at the toss because it tends to suggest there is little advantage across the game to batting or bowling first and thus little advantage to whoever wins it.
That is a different point to what is being discussed though. I agree pitches that make a decision at the toss very tough are good but that is not just based on the pitches though. Overhead conditions, local climate and other factors all play into it. Just because it is always a good strategy to bat first in the subcontinent does not mean tosses decide matches. Tosses decide matches here just as much as they do elsewhere, and if you actually look at the stat that matters (% of wins after winning toss) you will realize what I said is just an obvious fact.

Yeah but hyperbole seems to be the only language social can understand.
