Yeah, I wonder if they will go with 4 seamers + Leach and Stokes there. As much as the pitch will be Indian (and the usual Motera wicket is one of the deadest tracks in India), it may still be the best option for the pink ball test for England. Something like:

Sibley
Crawley
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Pope
Foakes
Woakes
Archer
Broad
Anderson
You've actually got 5 seamers and no spinners in that side.

Always felt like Woakes was really quite comfortably ahead of Curran, you never really doubt that he is a frontline bowler and his record at home has been excellent for a while now.

The other big difference of course is age, will be interesting to see what happens with Woakes, feels like he could go on to take over well over 250 wickets or not play much more at all. Would have thought they would want him around after Anderson and Broad retire but that will mean he himself will be playing well into his 30s. Then there is his away record, guess they could just play him at home but it seems less feasible without Broad or Anderson. Batting will obviously be a factor as well, especially if Leach is going to be the spinner.
Woakes is a very good bowler, definitely agreed.. But, IMHO in terms of the line and length, his bowling seems very much the similar to that of anderson and broad.. the bowling line up with 3 of them (anderson. broad and woakes) lacks variety (archer is very different though).. When a batsman concentrates hard and makes the mental adjustment to leave those balls at certain line and length and not nick them, it is easier for him if all the bowlers are of generally same type and bowling in a similar way.. But introduce an anamoly like Curran into the mix, who has completely different line and different way of swinging the ball, the mental effort needed for the batsman to survive in a moving pitch is really hard. Just what I felt when I saw the last series of Indian tour to Eng.. honestly I didnt watch other recent Eng tests, so donno how good is Curran right now.. But could be worth a try just for his batting itself, he is a very gutsy player and counter attack to get a quick fire 50..

Let's see what happens today (and of course what the pitch looks like), but I'd think about giving Stokes a rest and playing something like:

Bairstow/Crawley
Sibley
Crawley/Lawrence
Root
Pope
Foakes
Woakes
Ali
Leach
Anderson
Stone/Archer
