Someone already said that this morning when I saw the Sky prematch, and you'll never guess who...

Aussies session but this is a very good pitch, bit of nibble with the new ball but no demons at all. Stokes has bowled a good spell here and Wood come back well.

The bowling improved a lot as that session went on but you feel they needed another wicket. Still not much happening.

Better last 20 minutes with the ball, but still our session. Can see the second session ending in tears though.....

You think we need to take a couple in the first hour after lunch, probably needing our openers to restart rather better than they managed with the new ball.

Wood and Stokes managing to keep it tight gives the openers a lot of freedom to try things. But in these conditions it should probably be moderately defensive lines+lengths all round.

Australia absolutely, unequivocally have to stop trying to hit boundaries off every ball Moeen bowls.

He chucks a few rank balls every over, punish those. He bowls a few decent ones, block those.

But we won't be aggressive if we don't try to smash him out of the park.

Typical British thinking this, to treat a bowler with a modicum of respect.

Obviously a good session for Australia but it's even better than it looks on paper to me. Definitely a flat wicket but there were some dangerous deliveries early on and could easily have lost one. The psychological impact of that first hour was huge, completely took the momentum back after the first test, was very good batting.

I'm not as opposed to the "attack Moeen" strategy as most seem to be, they don't want to let him settle and that's fine, but he's not going to be a huge threat on this surface so it really was an unbelievably silly way to get out. Warner's lack of patience is a way bigger problem in his test career at present than any issues against the moving ball or anything.
