I was bitterly disapointed with the Lions. They were woeful in the middle 50 minutes.

This is a BOP side who have lost their key play maker (Glenn Jackson) and their second five eigths (Rua Tupoki). Great effort by BOP but i was dissapointed by the Lions tactics. As soon as BOP got into the match the Lions decided to play boring rugby by kicking for the corners. They were treating it like a test match.. This is against a side who only have 6 or so Super 12 players. I suppose they did what they had to do to win so good luck to them.

I think it's a credit to the B of P that the Lions were forced into playing percentage Rugby. They pressurised The Lions line-out (Bulloch's throwing didn't help) & got over the gain line more often than not.

If The Lions had lost the match they'd have been crucified (& rightly so), so I think their play was understandable. In the end it was perhaps only The Lions superior fitness that won it. It wasn't until late on the game looked safe.

It was quite amusing that Miles Harrison in the commentary over here kept mentioning that The Bay of Plenty had made last year's NPC semis when the game got close! :D

Yes I imagine it must have got a bit panicky when BOP came back..

They were a good side last year and actually won the ranfurley shield off Auckland and the next week managed to retain it against Waikato so they certainly show passion

Bad news on the Dallaglio front; SCW said it looks like a dislocation. His tour's over. Sir Clive said he had a replacement in mind. Colin Charvis, maybe? Looked good against the ABs last (NH) autumn.

Brilliant effort by the Bay of Plenty Steamers !! I thought they had their chance of glory until the last try Nailed it for the lions. Lions though will gain confidence from their ability to come home in a close game and they will definitely get better with each game.

On another note nice to see Marshall was selected for the Fiji Test.

I'd heard Rokocoko hadn't been selected for the ABs trial match. He carrying an injury? He's been fairly average in the Super 12 this year, mind.
Rokocoko definatly seemed like a guy who just benefited from all the work done by Spencer for example, this was the impression I got from him when he was playing for the AB's.

As for the tour scheldule I'm glad we are seeing a proper tour for once.

Spencer was not the reason why Rokocoko played well last season. I think you'll find that once he gets back into form, he'll be more dangerous with the services of Dan Carter at 5/8.

Taranaki lead the Lions 7-6 after 47 minutes.

Taranaki just turned the Lions scrum 90 degrees..lol.
I think this will be the weakest side played by the Lions though..but still, some of these Lions players aren't looking any better than decent NPC players.

Corry almost bombed a try. Taranaki will be disappointed by that after the last 10 minutes of pressure.

This is hardly the strongest Lions side though, not by a long shot.

Taranaki has a population of 66,000 though! lol...even the weakest Lions side should win comfortably.

That could well be the end for Taranaki though...Andrew Hore gets a yellow card.

Hodgson looks a good player though. Not convinced about some of the forward pack.

'Naki played well in the first half and upto the first 10 minutes in second half, but then lost it from thereon.

It was almost as if their game had come to an end then !! :D

I reckon some of the guys from this game for the Lions will force themselves into the Main Lions Teams . ( even though the Mid week Team is generally regarded as the training squad )

Geordan Murphy, Shane Horgan and even Martin Cory , Will Greenwood could force themselves into the Main Weekend Lions Team for starters, IMO.

What a classic beauty of a try by Murphy off the chip kick !! Beautiful move worked by the 3 players involved.

Lions without doubt getting stronger with every game !!

Haven't seen the game as I'm stuck at work, but reading the Beeb's website it sounds like another case of the professional Lions superior fitness oulasting the mainly semi-pro provincial players.

Listened to most of first half on radio on way in; commentator said Cuister had ok half. Owen looked poor tho. That about right?

Not sure on the others but won't Greenwood have to displace Hensen to do that?

Which station had it? I had a quick look, but couldn't find it.
