3/88 is pretty good given that most of the bowling was mediocre at best
Almost as if they were trying too much. The drying up of runs to Root work so well last time. Of course the lack of Ryno Harris might have something to do with that

I think Michael Clarke's captaincy deserves one small pat in the back for bringing in Lyon so early to get Cook.

Woke up expecting to see some session highlights but it seems ESPN is not showing anything but crowd right now.

I don't like being uber-negative about cricket - I can be enthralled by Nepal v Netherlands - but that was pretty rubbish from both sides.

I thought it was as if they didn't have a plan. Weren't consistently targeting a particular area to any of the batsmen, which is unforgivable to guys like Cook and Ballance who are woeful if you hit the right area and unstoppable if you don't.

Ya Starc is definitely still not in Boult's league...whether he can be in Boult's league in future is a separate debate

Nerves?

Though to be fair Hazlewood was the pick of the pacemen and he is the least experienced, the so called experienced men haven't shone at all.

Trying to work out why it is he has a problem. I think Holding was on to something when he was talking about how close to the stumps he gets. Means he can bowl a very attacking line to the right handers with everything hitting the stumps, but the opposite problem for the left handers. It's either magic balls or more likely drifting onto the pads or swinging from the hand outside off. What makes left armers like Boult so hard to face for LHBs is the angle in and then movement away, but Starc doesn't really get the same angle in.
Would be interested in analysing his run up when he's got a lefties in the crease. Caught a segment with McGrath the other day and he mentioned that he would start his run up a step to the left if he was bowling to a lefty so that he'd still get all his angles right and bowl it where he wanted it.

Also I'm not entirely sure about Lyon being taken off having been by far the best bowler on show for his first few overs.

Is there anything, perhaps aside from weldone's posting in this subforum, that is worse than when your TV notes 'no activity' and starts auto-shut down leaving you to frantically search for the remote

every test match ffs
