***Official*** 1st Test at Brisbane

It would've been just desserts for the selectors if Marsh had gotten injured on the opening morning; such a needless risk to take on someone who's always injury-prone.

What a fitting end it would be to Shaun Marsh’s Test career to get injured on the eve of the first Ashes Test.

Had no idea Lawry still commentated, can't remember the last time I heard him.
He was limited to doing one test a year for couple there, bigger workload last summer, did Melbourne and Sydney matches that time plus that stinkhole Geelong.

Renshaw and Bancroft opening.

I think half of Australia would commit suicide at the toss
At least Renshaw has done it at test level, I have confidence he can occupy the crease and get a few on the board.
Averages 36 but 6/10 test have been away from home and he's only 21. Ave of 63 in Aus (small sample of course)

Just realized I won't have much work over the next couple of days since my boss is off for Thanksgiving. Gonna drown myself in an orgy of Test cricket for the next few days. :D

Whenever Australia grab a wicket he screams like a little girl. I've never come across someone more happier than Nicholas when Australia get a wicket - and this is against England as I just re-watched a load of Australian Ashes, including 2006-7 and 2013-14 (painful I know but I wanted to watch Collingwood's knock at Adelaide and Stokes's century).

He knows where his bread is buttered. Same as Holdong commentating on England. I agree, it’s sockennb

I hope we bowl first. I'm curious as to how our attack, and Cummins in particular will go and whether James Vince is as bad as he sounds.

I hope England doesn't do something silly like choose to bowl. Although if both teams had less fragile batting lineups I'd expect a draw because it will be 'a good batting wicket' (KM Jr's words) of ****ing course.

Michael Holding isn't out on the pitch asking to touch the balls and penis of every bloke in a baggy green. Nicholas openly does this and seems to take enjoyment in doing so. At least Tony Greig maintained a "anyone but the Aussies" mentality throughout his tenure for channel 9. It certainly helped keep the channel 9 gaggle of geese from dogging themselves into a stupor. They must have to wipe the windows clean after Slater and Healy finish commentating.

Hopefully we get more of Punter... he seems to be fairly objective.

king cricket on shaun marsh:

Marsh may or may not be fit for the first Test, but the development still has the potential to muddy Australia’s crystal clear selection policy.

Early in the season, the selectors were looking to youth. This led to last season’s New South Wales top-scorer Ed Cowan being omitted from the state side in favour of some young lad no-one’s heard of. The decision was made on the grounds that Cowan is 35 and his replacement has milk teeth and so Non-Cowan Boy therefore had a better chance of playing for the Test team.

Fast forward five minutes or so and Australia implemented a brand new selection policy that favoured ‘experience’. 32-year-old Tim Paine came back, thanks to his 2006 batting form, and 34-year-old Marsh was also given another chance.

All well and good. But if these old boys are going to start complaining of back ailments, dizzy spells, rheumatoid arthritis and general confusion, maybe the selectors will feel they have revert to championing youth as they did so convincingly for one part of one squad announcement about a year ago.
Australia have cricketers far too good to lose this series, which is tragic because the higher ups are giving it a really good go
