With Dean Jones he basically just needs Warne and KP to exceed the gross national ego of New Zealand.

Considered Lamb and Gower.

Border's ODI record is quite poor. Average and SR both inferior to Imran Khan who was primarily a bowler.

Waugh was better than his average suggests. He upped his game in world cups. I considered picking him but Mark was more tempting.

You basically have to think of Steve Waugh as an all rounder for the first ten years of his career and a batsman afterwards. From 96 in he actually had a petty decent average and strike rate for the era (36 @ 80). That was 8 years and half his career.

But statistically he simply wasn't as good as many others who can be picked from. It's similar with Border. Pretty reasonable stats for the era but nothing flash and certainly nowhere near how good he was in tests.

Border and even Steve Waugh have pretty poo records as ODI players.

Guys let's not discuss those players in detail who can still be picked.
