ODI Country/Average Combo Draft

Krypto

U19 Vice-Captain
When you refer to compromising on batting, do you mean the top order or depth?
I would compromise on batting depth to get wicket takers, but not at the expense of a strong top 4 or 5 batting line-up.
Well a bit more pedantic than that in this draft due to restrictions however yes exactly that , was just apparent that in tests I value a all rounder much more than in ODI also a bowler that can bat in tests. Without going to in depth I just taught it was a general consensus however seems it isn't . A lot of test teams played with 4 bowlers in some extreme cases 3 in ODI you cannot do that and just one weak bowler gives 1/4 of an advantage to opposition and 3 strong bowlers isn't as much a threat as they only provide 3/5 maximum as it tests they can be more constant and higher percentages etc .

Had almost made my pick yesterday then stalled was torn between the combo of Malik/Erasmus which would have lended more batting depth and the combo I will go with Abdul Qadir/Andrew Balbirnie

Glenn Turner
Romesh Kaluwitharana (wk)
Joe Root
Dean Jones
Andrew Balbirnie
Shakib Al Hasan
Mohammad Nabi
Abdul Qadir
Allan Donald
Jasprit Bumrah
Courtney Walsh (c)

In hindsight I'd have picked Pollock or Hadlee in R1, had a bit of batting depth at number 8 and hoped Nabi was still available further down the line. Nonetheless whilst we have a longish tail I think we also have a solid side without too many severe compromises.

A bit torn between Malik/Erasmus and Balbirnie/Qadir. As a duo I think the latter are better but the batting looks a bit short and the tail a bit long with Balbirnie/Qadir. May change this tomorow but for now I'll go with Malik and Erasmus

Your xi has Qadir/Balbirnie listed I am aiming to do the voting thread tomorrow so please clarify today.

If anyone else hasn't posted their final team, please do so today.

Shoaib Malik
He's underrated a bit. There was a time he was consistently putting up good scores coming in at 3. Plus he contributed with the ball as well.

I feel like there was a lot of unfair criticism of him. He'd consistently score 60ish at a decent rate and the commentators would be saying they'd rather have Inzy at 3 since he was Pakistan's best bat at the time.

I did think you might have meant Salim Malik, who was also an underrated limited overs bat.

Yes, even after playing for such a long time, he always went under the radar as he looked surplus to the team a lot of times. I was also thinking if it is Salim Malik or even doubted about Umran Malik but Shoaib Malik didn't strike at all :)

Another really underrated one is Umar Akmal, who I think is tainted by being Kamran Akmal's brother. There was a time when he and Misbah consistently saved Pakistan after they lost the first 3 wickets or so cheaply. He would score at a reasonable rate, while Misbah grinded it out more. Pakistan didn't always win those games, but him and Misbah at least made them competitive and prevented what might have otherwise been a complete collapse..

Balbirnie/Qadir please. I had written a lot of that last post from yday - changed the top part and XI but forgot about the bottom. So yes I will go for Balbirnie and Qadir please - sorry about confusion

Malik was so so to begin with against pace and got worse later in his career. Was a gun ODI AR in the 2000s though. Asia Cup legend.
