I dunno vincent performes at odd times.. kinda like if hes in the mood or something..

I know when he was raved at the start as the new astle or something because he had got a 100 and 50 against australia.. but hes no where great or close to good..

with Astle declared fit & McMillan given a chance for redemption it was predictable that the likes of Sinclair & Horne would miss out.

Good to see Jones included after the non-event of his SL tour.

Mason gets a chance to push for inclusion, as does Hitchcock into the ODI side.

Not surprised to see Vincent in the team as he is regarded as the best fielder in the side. Hopefully this season he will be left alone to open the innings in both forms so we can find out once & for all if he can produce the right stuff.

I will reserve judgement re Cairns regarding his selection as an 'allrounder' for ODIs, & best wishes to his family regarding their upcoming birth.

I'm not surprised Adams did not make selection, although I thought his recent form had better figures than McMillan, Cairns & a few others!

I'm bemused by comments I have read regarding the possible opening partnership being Jones & Vincent - presumably in Tests. If so I would like to know what they intend to do with Richardson - they have just spent 2 years buggering up Vincent as an opener so are they now going to start on the most consistant batsman we have in the top order?????

Where have you been getting the idea that they're about to drop Richardson as an opener?

I think the selectors know enough to realise that removing Richardson as opener would be one of the dumbest decisions of any selection panel in recent times.

I seriously doubt Richard Jones would stroll into the opening spot ahead of Richardson & likewise with Vincent.

I really do wish New Zealand would find two permanent openers and stick with them. That is what I like about South Africa. The sooner they stop chopping and changing them without injury as a n fair enough excuse, the better.

Well we've got one in Richardson, but he isn't exactly young these days..I think he's 31 so the selectors need to stop mucking around and start making some sensible, long term decisions.

Me and Mark Richardson share a birthday (June 11) and I was born in 1985 so he has a fourteen years older then me so he is 32.

Actually Richardson is statiscally one of New Zealand's best ever Test batsmen. I believe he is on top of New Zealand's all-time Test averages. I think McIntosh who was the best batsmen in FC last season.

Mark Richardson is playing for my club (Auckland University) this season because we are back in A grade..yay.

Im not in the premier division team, unfortunately.
But in the next 1 or 2 years I hope to be close.

I read it on the NZ cricket web site - Jones & Vincent expected to be in contention for opening. I must have read it late at night because I read it as if they were being considered as THE opening partnership as it was not clear that the article was referring to the 'vacant' spot opposite Richardson.

just read a story on the NZ cricket page suggesting that Spearman may be looked at for a recall in the ODI series - partly because of his connection / performances for Bracewell in English County cricket!!!!!!

Yet another short term solution or a longer term backward step?????

:O

The Kiwis have got a solid looking squad. They'll cause some trouble in the one dayers, but perhaps fail to keep in touch with the Indians come the test series.

But after their performance against us a couple of years ago here in Australia, I have reached the conclusion that anything can happen with the NZ team, and I would be writing them off at my own peril...

:D

BBC Ceefax claims that Spearman has rejected the offer to play for New Zealand again as it will mean he loses the Gloucestershire contract. However, he will be playing NZ domestic this winter (Central Districts?)

I wonder what the top order contenders thought of it all - must have been tearing their hair out screaming for a go!!!!!!!

There was no guarantee that Spearman would be able to somehow transform himself into an international player after years of attempts even if his Glouc's coach John Bracewell is now with NZ.

I think it was in the best interests of NZ cricket & also Spearman..he's happy with his contract and he's been a success for Glouc's.
