That's right Rik. You should be ashamed. 
I have been told that Tim McIntosh is a Medium Slow net bowler. I was also told that he is not good enough to bowl at senior club level. Don't know if it is true or not though. Hasn't come from the most reliable source.
I see in 33 matches for Auckland he has bowled 4 overs.

Its hard to say who will be picked for the Sri Lankan tour because I see Richard Jones from Wellington is leading in the most runs category.
18 innings, 667 runs at an average of 47.64, 2 hundreds 3 fifties
Richard Jones must have the inside running because he was picked in NZ's 30 man squad for the World Cup & so was James Marshall although I think he must be out of the running now because he has only averaged 25 this season.

Craig Cumming is a great player and he is usually consistant. I think he will be in the minds of the Selectors as it is that opening batting position that is the problem (in both tests and ODI's).
I now think that Fleming is best opening the innings though (I was against it before the world cup). I think Astle should stay at 3 but if he doesn't it could be a number 3 or 4 that we are looking for.
As for Jesse's century. I could see that it was comeing very soon. He is a very good player.

If you look at 3 semi-finalists (dis-regarding Kenya) you'll see all 3 of them have a specialist lineup.
7 batsmen (including keeper) & 4 strike bowlers.
NZ's problem is, is that they select 1 strike bowler & then 2 medium pace bowlers. If you want to be successful you need to select 3 quick's & then maybe someone like Jacob Oram.
So from my point of view, this is what NZ should try & aim at for ODI's.

Now obviously you can swap All-Rounder & Keeper depending on who the better batsman is.
The idea is to get this rid of this problem where the players keep thinking that they bat all the way to 11 so if they get out then its no worries, there is someone else to do the job. And then likewise with the bowling, you've got your 3 quickies, your spinner & then your all-rounder who is probably medium pace but accurate so nobody gets the idea that the whole team can bowl so it doesn't matter if they go for runs.
Now Cairns was being used at 5, not anymore with my plan he's not consistent enough to be considered a specialist so he'd be relegated to at least 6 or 7.
Styris the same, he's still to me not a specialist batsman so IMO his future is at 6 or 7 aswell and that leaves ALOT of all-rounders fighting for one position which is good.
That also leaves no room for Chris Harris, he just hasn't put the runs up & his bowling is no longer very effective so I think the selectors should do him a favour. In saying that Harris is always coming in when NZ are either already down the drain at 80/6 or when there are only 20 odd runs required.
If Harris was desperate he should drop his bowling & concentrate on being a #4 batsman because I think that is really his only option now.

I think the main problem lies with if we take another spinner, who goes. Walker, Sulzberger, Wiseman, Redmond, Martin??. I would put harris in only if Vettori was the only spinner because His bowling is slow and can tie up one end.

IMO any team that goes to the sub-continent with only 1 spinner is asking for trouble - big time!
you also need your seam bowlers to have something extra - pace / bounce to make up for the lack of help from the pitches, and to distinuish themselves from military medium pace that could become cannon fodder. I also think that you do need someone of medium pace who is physically strong to take on extended workloads & who is also accurate - not so much a 'strike' bowler.
So fas as player's ages goes - the Aussies have proven this to be hogwash - Hayden, Langer & Martyn all got their current test careers back on track / lifelines in their late 20's - early 30's. Even Richardson could be called a late bloomer! If the player is the best current option to do the job, especially if it's in a specialist role, then they should be picked until they either become unavailable or some more / better options are found!
I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot will depend on discussions with Sneddon, Fleming & the Selectors as to where NZ cricket goes from here - do they start to rebuild with a view to 2007 now, or do they go into damage control with the squad & talent they have but rework the lineups & tactics?
I would not be surprised if we see Adams, Astle, McMillan & Vincent given a break from SL. Cairns can no longer be considered part of the NZ test squad until further notice because of his recurring injury probs. Although Harris got a break re the WC he had not figured in Test selections since the WI & I would be surprised to see him included in the Test Squad.
