NZ domestic season 2023/24

Yeah Foulkes and Smith both need runs. Atm they're both in the Sam Curran hell of being diminutive new ball bowlers who don't justify a top 7 spot.
I don't think Foulkes has ever taken the new ball yet for Canterbury in red ball.

In fact. I'd wonder if yesterday was even the first he's opened in ListA.

Greenwood finally made some runs (61). Kristian Clarke with a 5-wicket haul, but looks like Johnston broke down in only his 2nd over. Ton for Kelly and a half-century for McLachlan.

EDIT: I do like Lennox's dismissal of Phillips.

From cricinfo's ask Steven column:

Logan van Beek came in at 67 for 6 in a one-day game the other day and scored 136 - is this the highest by a No. 8 in a List A match? asked Chris Monroe from New Zealand
The Dutch international Logan van Beek hit 136 against Central Districts at the Basin Reserve last week to help Wellington reach 281 for 8 after a sticky start. Sadly, rain meant the match was a no-result.

The only higher score from No. 8 in a List A (senior one-day) match is 144, by Nazmul Hossain Milon against Rajshahi in Dhaka in 2006-07. His remarkable innings helped Dhaka achieve a one-wicket win off the last ball, as they reached 300 for 9 after having been 112 for 7.

There have been 18 other centuries from No. 8, and six from No. 9

Andrew Hazeldine has an important milestone coming up.

He will have been cancer-free for three years in a couple of days.

That really puts cricket into perspective.

The 29-year-old left-armer really is just happy to be out on the park.

And even happier after he nabbed five for 36 to seal a 65-run win for the Otago Volts against Central Districts at the University Oval yesterday.

Saw that innings of Mather's at the old Blake Park. He was class. With a bit more discipline perhaps could have been in the Black Caps.
I played a few club games in Dunedin with Mather. He loved the bar scene down there. Top bloke to get on the town with but very talented as you say. He tuned up at 10.55am for an 11am start on Saturday morning and his eyes looked like piss holes in the snow. He was batting 3, we lost a wicket early, and he was on his way out there, reeking of booze.

He scored an amazing 95, and as he came off, one of our mouthy team mates said "might have got a ton if you weren't out on the piss last night ". Mather gave him absolute daggers and everyone fell silent.

Noted Saffa and U19 star Ewald Schreuder called up for ND's game at Hagley Oval, replacing the presumably injured Scott Johnston. It's now a 13-man squad with 4 spinners, lol.

It's a shame wickets against Otago don't count, as that's huge late swing/seam from Milne to dismiss Georgeson, and Sears clean-bowling Foxcroft was great too.

Hazeldine! :notworthy

Nearly smashed a fifty the other day, got there today in 26 balls! Tenth wicket partnership of 79 with Duffy to give Otago almost something to defend. Seems to have a lot of spark, Hazeldine - energy in his bowling (though not the most accurate) as a mini-Wagner, plus obv had to recover from cancer.
