apparently Bruce Martin can bowl a doosra

maybe the selecters think O'Brien can get swing with his action
Interesting....I must admit i've seen very little of him bowl....Does he get much turn??

Congrats to NZ A team . Peter Fulton is blossoming into a fine prospect for NZ ,IMO.

For SL, the failure of Weerakoon the spinner, in getting more wickets at home against this A Team must be extremely disappointing.

Opener's didn't do much...disappointing. Good knocks from Sinclair and Fulton (who should play v South Africa if he continues his form) doesn't really solve the NZ middle order woes.

Bruce Martin looks like a good spinning prospect for the future. Good job NZA :)

I think he is much better than Patel, Patel seems to be in the black caps to fix the problems at the death

By the end of this tour, Fulton looks like he'll join Crowe, Turner and Verdun Scott as the only Kiwis with 3000+ FC runs and a 49+ average.

I know Bracewell says he has "back-foot issues", but to be fair to Fulton, he's now had decent outings for NZA from Cape Town to Kandy. Often in complete crisis situations as well, which should come in handy if he gets promoted to the BCs.

I suppose we're the only country in the world where guys with sub-30 batting averages can become household names (Styris, Marshall), and a guy averaging around 50 isn't even famous in his own living room. With no team in the Pura Cup anytime soon and our domestic stats so unreliable, a lot seems to depend on whether you take a quirk of fate (an injury on the West Indies tour for Styris, fears of terrorism for Marshall) and run with it.

Nice to see Bruce Martin taking wickets also - I think we said on CW ages ago that this would be a really important tour for him.

Seeing the OD scorecards in the last few weeks I thought he'd blown it, but outperforming Wiseman in the second innings of a tight game (i.e. when you really want your spinners to step up) will make their figures in the remaining two games a lot more interesting.

Martin doesn't spin it that much from what i saw of him at Manly a couple seasons ago, but he was expermenting with a doosra back then. We should have won that game, a poor effort from the spinners to not bowl out the Kiwis in the 2nd innings.

NZ should not be mucking around with Jeetan Patel. Bruce Martin has the better stats and he's bowled very well once again in this 'A' match.

Not to mention the fact that Martin is also a very handy batsman, much like Daniel Vettori.

The good thing about Fulton is that he can defend when required and then score quickly. From memory the majority of his hundreds usually come in less than 200 balls.

Age-wise he's around 26, so he's not getting any younger..I'd like to see him in the team sooner rather than later.

I think if Sherlock, Davis or Butler had been fit..we'd have seen a different bowling attack.
Im not sure what the selectors are gaining from this when they've got Martin & O'Brien opening followed by Chris Harris..Martin appears to be a test option only now, O'Brien I don't think is either and Harris is certainly well past being a test option.

Fulton also plays important knocks, rather than just piling on runs on flat pitches. He has frequently bailed Canterbury out of trouble in recent seasons. This is the type of player we need playing for the BCs. If he was an opener he would be in the test side now.

Shouldn't Fulton's average now be over 50 again? This was an official FC match I assume.

Who else is missing from the bowling attack? Chris Harris doesn't even come on as first change for Canterbury - nor should he ever had!

I don't get why the selectors are being picky with Fulton when they're selecting guys like Cumming, James Marshall & Lou Vincent who clearly have their own technical problems. And when you compare first class stats none of them are any where near Fulton.
