Scorpions came into this game in rather patchy form, having lost to the Sea Eagles, destroyed the Raiders, then lost to the Rabbitohs, but they took the game by the scruff of the neck early on, Stedman flying across the line after 5 minutes with Goff following him less than three minutes later. Dobson converted both as the Scorpions' explosive backs left the Sharks shellshocked. However, the Scorpions are learning many of the lessons a new NRL team has to learn the hard way, and today's was not to rest on their laurels. They allowed the Sharks, in their very first set since before the first try, work the full way up the pitch and gave Kimmorley time to put a kick into the in-goal, where it was met by Paul Mellor to half the arrears. The game opened up, but there was no more scoring in the first half, apart from a Covell penalty midway through the Scorpions reduction to 12 men due to a high shot from Kearsley on Nutley.

Five minutes into the second half, Matt Hilder levelled the scores and Covell added the two. The Scorpions were becoming increasingly ill-disciplined, with Covell given opportunities to stretch the lead twice more to 18-12 and constant pest, Dave Richards, getting binned. However, he returned with one last roll of the dice for the Scorpions and his impact was immediate. His and Markus' drives and offloads gained some good ground and the Scorpions, desperately keeping, managed to force their way up the pitch. When Currie was halted for the 3rd tackle of the set there was only 7 metres seperating him and Cronulla's tryline. Kyle Wright took a go at being the hero, and it paid off as he managed to squeeze himself between the defenders and over the line. Now the visitors would leave with a point if Dobson could convert. He stepped up calmly.... and spooned the kick somewhere in the direction of Adelaide. Gutted.

Good effort guys. Gotta learn not to give away penalties within kicking distance.

Stoked with my 3 stars.
