By the way, some of you were talking about Yileen Gordon and his nationality sometime ago. He's been picked for the Junior Kangaroos to play PNG on Saturday.
yeh that was the discussion, cause i posted a potential backline for the Junior Aussies after seeing the train on squad and he was there..

Bailey is injured and wasnt considered, Wing was just left out, same as Matt Sing...

In 3 or 4 years time NZ is going to be the dominant force in International League. We seem to be producing a few superstars and we have 100's of juniors signed up to NRL clubs.

Is interest in rugby league actually growing in NZ generally though ?

League only gets a fair run when the Warriors play well so not in Wellington. It isn't played in school's here. Basically all the players you see in the NRL from Wellington come from the Wanuiamata rugby league club. It doesn't really matter though. The talent is coming through.

People that have played league for them include Tana Umaga, Piri Weepu, Paul Whatuira, David Faiumu, Lomax. It is pretty much the only league area in Wellington. 20 juniors have been signed by NRL clubs from the Wanuiamata club.

A little known fact is that in 1994 Tana Umaga actually was signed by the Newcastle Knights but got homesick and came home. What a star he would have been.

Piri Weepu (all blacks halfback) has said that his true love is league not union and that he wants to play for the kiwis in the future.

If Weepu is as good in league as he is he in union then we have potentially the replacement for Stacey Jones.

IIRC North Queensland were looking at signing him but he stuck with rugby. I think he also choose rugby because his parents loathed league and never came to watch him play. The details are a bit sketchy as I am only remembering details from an interview with him some years ago.

Gee, it wouldve been nice to have seen this game. I dont even like League, but I wouldve watched it for the atmosphere and for general interests sake.
They showed it at 10.40, thats just not cricket.

10.40 thats pretty poor
it went live into Melbourne and killed it in the ratings, over 500,000 in all quarter sections of the rating slots, i say well done to melbourne for watching a real game!

I didnt expect them to show it live at 5pm, but 8.30 or whatever wouldve been fine instead of some crapola Steven Seagal movie. What a joke, there are plenty of League fans over here who wouldve been fuming.

IMO Prince stepped up when it was needed in the last 20 but I thought he had a very quiet first 40 and some of his kicks wern't flash. Marshall did good things all night and should have come close IMO (Knew he wouldn't win it as it is picked by the AUS selectors, they would never pick a kiwi) and so was Mark O'Neill, Dene Halatau and John Skandalis. I watched the first half again this morning and Prince went missing. Still did a superb job in the last 20-30 mins and wasn't the worst choice in the world, jsut seemed like there were players out there that did at least an equally good job last night.
But, you're missing the point. That's what the great players do. They do what they need to, but when the side needs that little bit extra they lift.

Simon - Matt Sing has retired from International football.
Matt Sing was going to retire from rep football but when the Origin series came around he made himself available again. He was definitely available for the Australian squad.

haha can u imagine this for a three quarter line 2 Covell 3 Matai 4 Carmont 5 Tupou, how woeful would that be...

but on covell i find it interesting that earlier this year he said he has no interest in playing for NZ cause he was in decent form and played for country, he must of come around and realised hes got no hope of going any further in Aus...
