ok, now this is the dilema...

Canterbury defeated Colts outright but due to belting them in the 1st half of the match picked up bonus points where Canterbury got none...

This leaves Canterbury 2 points behind Colts on the table...

So really we have only 2 options....

Either bump the points given for an outright win up to 10 and leave the rest, or drop the bonus points scheme all together...

I think the 1st option is much better...
Cause teams who perform well in a game but still get beaten ie colts/NSW should get some bonus...

By my calculations Canterbury get 6 pts and Colts get 8 even though Canterbury won outright!
An outright win has to be worth more!
Maybe:
10 for outright win
5 for draw
0 for loss
1 bonus point for first innings lead (should be sufficient seeing as there are bonus points for batting and bowling for the first innings too)

I was thinking

10 for outright win
4 for a draw
2 Bonus point for 1st inns win
0 for loss
:D:D:D

pretty much the same...

I have to leave, but i will check in 2nite and decide on the final system, which will most likely be similar to this or grahams last one...

Under the system I just proposed Canterbury would get 10 and Colts 9 - still probably too close.
Maybe their should be a maximum 3 bonus points available for each of batting and bowling?

Bonus points:

Batting
1 pt for 200-300
2 pts for 300-400
3 pts for 400+

Bowling
3 pts for bowling side out for less 200
2 pts for bowling side out for 200-250
1 pt for bowling side out for 251-300

We need to strike a balance between bonus points and victory points - certainly a close win match merits less points than a wide margin.

How about for bous points - this is Score, Batting points, Bowling Points

<150 - 0 - 5
150-224 - 1 - 4
225-299 - 2 - 3
300-374 - 3 - 2
375-449 - 4 - 1
450+ - 5 - 0

Then there's always 10 points awarded in a match as bonus points.

Add to that I reckon 8 for a win, 5 for 1st Innings lead in a draw, 3 for 1st Innings loss in a draw and 0 for loss.

That way there is always 18 points available for a game (if you want 20 for a game go 10 - 6 - 4 - 0)

If a match doesn't reach 1st Innings conclusion, split the points (but that's very unlikely to happen)

My latest gives either 9-9 or 11-9

that is more fair than 10-6 IMO, as Colts did dominate a lot of the game, so deserve a closer share of the points.

I guess if you always go with the 10 for a win it clears up the chance of a freak result giving a losing team more than a winning team. Having said that, if this game hadn't happened in this round, how many people would've thought such a points tally likely?

I like your bonus points system as it is fair to all teams.
However I'd go with a 10-5-0 system in addition (no bonus for first innings lead).
Canterbury - 11
Colts -9

I just want to know why there is only bonus points for the first innings?? We should be judging the teams performance by how they played over their 2 innings....like with the Canterbury v Colts match how come Colt are rewarded for playing so well in the first innings when they played shocking in the second. While Canterbury put in a great 2nd innings performance but got no extra points. To me it just doesnt seem fair. If you want to do bonus points you should award points for both innings.

There's no need to have both bonus points for batting/bowling in the first innings + bonus points for a first innings lead - it seems to be double dipping.

Many FC competitions around the world have done away with bonus points altogether with points awarded solely for win, draw or loss.

Ok how about this for a system:
6 points - Outright win 6 points
4 points - 1st innings win for a match which ends in a draw
2 points - 1st innings win

Plus for the bonus points ive used Grahams idea except changed the ranges a bit:

Batting
1 pt for 251-350
2 pts for 351-450
3 pts for 451+

Bowling
3 pts for bowling side out for less 150
2 pts for bowling side out for 151-200
1 pt for bowling side out for 201-250

With the changes i made only on side would receive bonus points for each teams innings.

Note the bonus points would be awarded for each innings.

Ok so for the Cant v Colts match the points would be Cant 10 Colts 6

Yeah i agree with Graham here.....i think if we want bonus points they should be for the od matches.....something similar to the ING cup would be good.

thats only cause you didn't get any :P the system is fine as it is, this system is very similar to the system in england in FC and i very much like that system

Yeah...so....Anyway i think mine is fairer as teams should be rewarded for playing for 4 days and not just 1 innings like Colts did....

Also had it been the reverse and Cant played well in the 1st inning and Colts played well in the 2nd....Cant would have got like 15 points while Colts would get nothing....is that fair??

Agemaster - the points system used in England does not enable a team losing outright to gain more points than the opponent that beats them outright.
No competition in the world would except WCC unless the points system is changed to a realistic one!

Ok i think the easiest system would be to do away with the bonus points and have it as a straight win/loss/draw system...

10 for outright win
4 for 1st inns win
2 for 1st inns loss
3 for tie/no result
0 for outright loss

This would then make the system alot easier to determine and keep track of, and if needed we can introduce a bonus points system next season...

Here is another point of view....

MINE

A run is worth 0.01
A wicket is worth 0.30

Therefore 10 wickets = 3pts
As well as 300 runs = 3pts

OK, so far?

Winning Outright after 1st Inn lead: = 10
Winning Outright after 1st Inn trail: = 8
Draw after 1st inn lead: = 6
Draw after 1st inn trail: = 4
Loss after 1st inn lead: = 4
Loss after 1st inn trail: = 0
Tie after 1st inn lead: = 7
Tie after 1st inn trail: = 5

Just a theroy

Blewy

Thats a good theory Paid but i think it leaves to many options...

Anyway here's what i think needs to happen...I have decided to abandon the Bonus Point system for this season(at least until we can come up with a fair system)

We have the 2 options...

1/ Grahams Idea...
10 Points for an outright win
5 Points for a Draw
1 Bonus Point for a 1st inns lead
0 Points for a loss

2/ My Idea
10 for outright win
4 for 1st inns win
2 for 1st inns loss
3 for tie/no result
0 for outright loss

I will make a poll and give a day or 2 for opinions to be made and then the decision will be made...
It is a tough situation and the only reason it has come to this is because the VC4 points system is very erratic...
