No Blackwell

They won't play 4 of them though since Flintoff will be fit and so they'll go with him, 3 of the above and Giles.

Choices, choices

I knew I'd forgotten someone. Now that does really make it tricky.
I presonally wouold go for Johnson, Anderson and Caddick though I imagine Harmison will stay in the team. Either way with Jones back for the winter England's pace options are looking promising. I was also mighty impressed with McGrath who looked the part. It restores a little faith in county cricket when England chance their arm with a surprise selection that comes off.

On other issues, Somerset are currently 36-5 in their Sunday match and I cannot fathom it. No team should ever find themselves quite that badly in shtuck and certainly not one with the quality Somerset possess. Having said that, the longer this goes on we might have to re-evaluate quite how good Somerset really are.....

According to a report I read today, Blackwell is giving himself a major physical and mental going over in an attempt to regain his place.

Army Majors and Player Committees

I think I read the same thing. Appointed a fitness expert to fight the flab and he has become the youngest member of Somerset's player committee to try and keep him involved and motivated. His bowling looks in decent nick, its the batting he now needs to dazzle us with. With Giles in excellent form and the likes of Gareth batty impressing, Blackie has it all to do....

Two things jf20001

Firstly:

with Jones back for the winter
Unlikely in the extreme I'd have thought. Early suggestions were that he'd be out of action for a year. Too early to then risk him straight back into Test match action. Probably a winter at the academy to assess his rehabilitation.

Secondly:

Welcome to Somerset CCC - NUL and County Championship Division 2 Champions for 2003
Don't you think it's time to change your signature. Not much chance of us being champions in Div 2 of the NCL this year, let alone the NUL.:P

OK Smart Arse!

 That was deliberate honest!! Anyhow, all changed to an Animal farm-esque mantra instead.

The Harmison comment was sarcastic! He shouldn't be in but will be, meaning Johnson (who deserves to play more than Harmison) will likely miss out, especially as we have Gough, Caddick, Flintoff and Hoggard all likely back.

So how exactly does Harmison not deserve selection considering he picked up wickets in both innings and didn't have the advantage of bowling to a load of batsmen more intent on hari kari then runs?

You do like to stir!! Or provoke thoughtful debate depending on where you're sitting :D

I will attempt to deflect attention onto a freebie offered by Wisden I've just seen:

For those with a love of cricket who can get to a computer with the internet then this might be for you....

Wisden seem to be offering a FREE downloadable desktop scoreboard which would allow you to keep constant tabs on all those dismal National League batting collapses ball by ball!!

Well I don't see what more he could have done in the Zimbabwe series, yet he still comes in for heavy criticism from certain quarters on here!

Marc, one series does not a player make.

Yet one Test in that series is suddenly enough to put other bowlers in the team for sure apparently.

Very nice looking icon.
Crashed Internet Explorer - had to uninstall it.
I visited the homepage and it just says how all the Wisden ball-by-ball facilities have now been transferred to Cricinfo.

On a side note - IE and Outlook Express are hell to uninstall.
You don't - you 'fix' them. Too messy to try to untangle otherwise (and you'd lose all your bookmarks, address books, life)

Once I deleted the Wisden thing, everything started working ok again after a reboot.

I think I mentioned the likes of Gough and Caddick, proven performers at international level, along with Flintoff, our only genuine allrounder (ok maybe White but he's still injured), and Hoggard who I don't think will play.

I certainly feel Anderson is more deserving than Harmison and that includes the whole winter and what I've seen in domestic cricket, as opposed to two matches as you are trying to imply.

They would be my four seamers, but we all know Harmison will play so I guess it's pointless arguing about it!
