I was working over the weekend with people who’ve watched the sport longer than I’ve been alive and they said the same thing about playing in these ridiculous conditions.

maybe it’s an American tradition. Soldier Field, Lambeau Field, the old Vikings stadium was 🥶

Something about the NFC North is synonymous with frigid weather….ice fishing and stuff (Grumpy Old Men)
Maybe it’s something to do with George Washington crossing the Delaware…or even his continental army crossing the frozen Kill van Kull

Cause it's Football, Baby!!!!

I prefer the snow games, which don't have to be that cold, as they're usually complete chaos.

I remember a match years ago played on a completely waterlogged pitch. Ended up 3-0. The ball from one punt landed on its nose and stuck in the mud.

Why would they have called it off? The quality of football was fine, it’s not particularly dangerous for the players. What was the reasoning?

This could go on the Rugby thread or here, but Louis Rees-Zammit has quit rugby and is heading to the US to try his hand at American Football. Still not entirely sure what position he'd be most suitable for. He's lightening fast, and maybe would've made a good wide receiver had he been honing those skills for 10 years.

It's strange. Picking up WR as an adult seems borderline impossible, there aren't even many transferable skills from rugby. But he's not really built for anything else.

What about something on the defence side? Christian Wade tried as a running back but never saw any NFL time, but he at least had an obvious position to try out. I just don't quite see where Rees-Zammit fits in.
