Sir,I totally agree with you but do you think there is any possible practical way of getting rid of Twenty20s & ODIs?It really hurts me from inside when these 2 dire formats fascinate young children & people who are cricket newbies.
In one word ..

NO

It's a valid opinion ... ain't gonna happen though. I voted 14 btw. Where is the next T20 WC anyway? They should hold it every four years between World Cups and get rid of the universally unloved Champions Trophy, or at least reduce the CT to eight teams.
Next T20 World In England mate... Feel They can replace with Champions Trophy or convert the Champions trophy into ICC Knock Out...

This the universally unloved Champions Trophy whose latest outing was pretty well indisputably far, far superior to the World Cup?

I won't mind Champions trophy being converted into a knockout tournament it would be much more slick and compact that way.

The first two tournaments were indeed KnockOut rather than Champions Trophies, and both worked well enough but inevitably meant some teams flew all that way for a single game, which is a bit of a bummer really.

Thats a good point richard, but something has to be done about champions Trophy or its boring as well as it will make people loose intrest in the World Cup too... Feel Knockout is better so that teams play their best to stay in the tournament as there are no second chances...

My idea for the knockout trophy would be to have 16 teams. The winners progress to the main tournament quarterfinals but the losers stay and have their own quarterfinals. It all then progresses to the main winner and the "B" winner.

Certainly I'd not have the Champions Trophy every 4 years - a Champions Trophy of the like of the most recent 2006\07 one in 2008\09, 2012\13, 2014\15 etc, then a WC of the like of 1999 or 1992 in 2010\11, 2014\15, 2019, etc. That'd be the pattern I'd have.

If a global Twenty20 tournament must be played, put it somewhere in between. But a Champions Trophy in a World Cup season is a bad idea - one will inevitably detract from the other; perhaps both, in fact.

Cricket can only become global if more teams get to play Twenty20 and this is the only format of the game which could make cricket truly global. Associate teams which play in the ODI world cup are barely followed by their locals, they literary don't give a c**p. ICC should include around 14-16 teams in Twenty20 championship and prepare associate teams by helding more Twenty20 international tournaments in between them or occasionally against the big guns.

ODI world cup with top 10-12 teams, a "Knock-Out" Championship trophy with 12-14 teams and 2020 with around 14-16 teams seems to be the ideal structure for major cricket events.

Icc should start marketing the T20 game in Associate nations more & generate intrest in their standerds.... So that the T20 World qualifiers could be of high profile...

Keep it at 12 teams (but knowing the ICC as I do there isn't a chance of that happening). What they need to do is have a 20/20 qualyfing tournamnet for the remaining two places. Only the ICC could come up with the idea of using one format (50 overs) to qualify for an event ran in a different format (Twenty 20). As for the CT - scrap it. It just devaules the WC and they can play the Twenty Twenty WC in the odd numbered year that does not have a WC.
