There was an Indian middle-order bat who came here for a short ODI series a few years back who was embarassingly bad against the short ball, if that was him then yeah he was really bad

Has he been weak against short ball in white ball games then?
to the point that every pacer and even the odd spinner is bowling short balls to him instinctively. he has worked on it to be better but it will still be ruthlessly exploited by any decent bowler in friendly conditions

he also bats behind the specialist keeper in our team for a reason so no way he is better than Pant or will ever be when he is older than him

I'd hold you to that. I think he is great. In run chases too. I'd go as far to say he is going to score 7000 test runs at 50. And 50 in odis too playing hundred games

he will do well in odis where you can escape by milking spinners which he does well tbf but in tests he is a walking wicket on any pace friendly pitch

Playing for India he can get away with not playing on too many of those though

he will be a monster at home and Asia and I can see the selectors just picking him in hope of it carrying over away on sena tours but recently there has been an emphasis on discarding players if they aren’t up to scratch on pace friendly conditions to the point that half the current batsmen cannot even play spin in any way. i don’t think he will be averaging 50 and above just feasting in Asia either

Maybe Rayudu? Remember there was a mini ODI series where Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson took poles. Could be Iyer though for all I know

Iyer at least has been gun at home - we've badly needed someone who can at the very least put some runs up on the board, don't care how he gets them.
As far as SENA goes, I'm not a fan of his at all cos we all know what's going to happen, but given he's been gun at home and at least performing, you have to give him the chance to fail IMO.
