Great with the gloves especially in the last few years of his test career. He wasn't overly special with the bat but he did average near forty against Australia which is a fair effort. You could make a case for any of Smith, Parore and McCullum to be the NZ all time wicketkeeper.

After he got the gloves back off Turner-puppet leader Germon, Parore was on the whole a very good keeper.

I would put him behind McCullum but on the same level as Smith when you take into account their batting. Parore underachieved with the bat. Could have averaged 33-35 in tests.

That's a 'seen live' XI I assume? There have been worse players. Cumming shouldn't be there for a start.

Is this a 'no Marshall allowed' worst XI?

Serious lack of respect for Chats. The man was born for ODI cricket. I dont think his batting should count against him as you can carry one bunny in your team.

I am not sure he would be as successful today I concede, I remember once Gavascar targeted him in the 1st 15 overs which was unheard of back then and Chats had no answer. So it just depends what era we are picking this all time team to compete in. If they had to walk on to the field today then yes I think some of the newer guys might be a good shout.

ODIs
1.Glenn Turner
2.Nathan Astle
3.Stephen Fleming
4.Martin Crowe
5.Roger Twose
6.Christopher Cairns
7.Brendon McCullum+
8.Richard Hadlee
9.Daniel Vettori
10.Kyle Mills
11.Shane Bond
Looking at this again, arguments could be made for Taylor over Twose I suppose. And a pace attack of Hadlee/Bond/Cairns/Mills seems a bit of overkill.

Gavin Larsen and Chris Harris should be in with a shout.

Anyhoo, removing Turner because he is old

ODI
1.Astle
2.McCullum (wk)
3.Fleming
4.Crowe
5.Taylor
6.Cairns
7.Harris
8.Hadlee
9.Vettori
10.Bond
11.Larsen

Harris in for his bowling/fielding/finishing
Larsen to given the bowling attack a bit of variation, and to join Vettori in a middle-overs strangling tandem.

Bowling attack of:
Hadlee
Bond
Cairns
Vettori
Larsen
Harris/Astle

I'd also like to see any of the current crop of bowlers still playing club cricket at Chatfield's age. He just keeps on going.

Wow...........No place for one G M Turner? Our 2nd best bat after Crowe in the last 50 years with a ODI average of 47 & a SR of 68 in an era when par SRs were around 60?

Also.... Harris wasn't quite good enough at either discipline to quite make an all-time NZ side.

My XI would be;

Turner
Astle
Crowe
Twose
Taylor
McCullum wk
Cairns
Hadlee
Vettori
Bond
Chatfield

I was going to ask what club, but then remembered one of his many nicknames...."The Naenae express"
Indeed. Still playing for NOB (Naenae Old Boys)

Just checked and he's playing Hutt Valley 1A this year. Batting average 7.40, Bowling 32.5
