First set of hints :

It is a fielding 'thing'. I am a West Indian. I am a middle order batsman, and I used to bat at No.5 or 6.

Q.13 Am I a wicket-keeper? No

Q.14 Was my record for the most number of catches in a match/innings? No

Big Hint : The fielding effort for which I am famous is the subject of what is possibly the most famous photo of a cricket match.

That's a pretty big hint. :)

I'm pretty certain that it's:

a) Joe Solomon

(b) Don't know what the record is...

(c) The run-out to end the tied Test I guess

(d) Not sure, possibly the 'hit wicket b Benaud' in the 2nd Test, don't know the details though

Well done. Solomon it is. The hit wicket happened when his cap fell on the wicket while playing back to Benaud. See Link

Only the first class record left. The corresponding test record was set in the mid 1980s.

Okay, I'll give this to Adamc.

Joe Solomon scored hundreds in his first three first class innings, the only player to do so. The three hundreds came in three different matches but I am not sure whether this feat is unique, hence the ambiguity in the question.

Just read this, interesting. You said there was a corresponding Test record... who managed that? Anyway, it is 3am and I need to sleep, can't think of a question right now so anyone feel free to ask away...
