Hi everyone,
I am new here. I think I need some hep with my batting. I have problems watching the ball onto my bat. i dont mis any pull shot or a six hitting option. but i dont watch it fully onto my bat. anything overpitched is feast, like a short ball to pull. i have problems cutting the ball square. and cover driving. does anyone have the similar problem?? or does anyone know what i have to do?? I am rated as a good batsman. but dont feel like it. oh yeah i need some help with my bowling too, i seem to chuck the ball when i bowl off-spin or medium. any tips ???

Difficult to say without some footage, but I suspect if you drive well but can't cut there are a few likely scenarios:

1 - You dont practice the cut enough - I have had this problem, where playing on really slow low pitches against medium pace all the time I just dont play the backfooted shots much - the easy answer is to get someone to bounce the ball at you in a net and work on it!

2. You could have a balance problem, if you are looking to drive all the time, maybe you arnt getting the balance right when you decide to cut. If you press forward to drive and then go back to cut, you have to be careful of not leaning back on the shot.. which would tend to make you spoon the ball to point or gully. A front foot cut might be a reasonable solution in this instance - keep your head still whatever...

3. If it gets you out a lot, you could just not play it. You can be a real good club cricketer even without a shot or two. Play to your strengths and work on the cut in the nets. If you sort it out, eventually, then use it in a match. Most club players try to do too much, copying their idols. The best club players know what they do well and stick to it.

Hope that helps. If you post a vid or something you will get more replies

Since you have already idenitified one of your weaknesses, which is you don't watch the ball onto the bat..

I suggest

1) You either play as a hand eye cooardination player so you forget about footwork and just focus on watching the ball but you need to see the ball well. It would probably help if you just work on building a solid defense and then driving the ball hard back past the bowler. E.g Sehwag,Gayle etc.

2)If you are not a hand eye coardination player, you need to identify whether you are a frontfoot player or a backfoot player, you cant be in the middle, otherwise you will continue doing what you are doing.

Yeah these tips are really handy coz hearing it from a player, who faced these problems. i will practice indeed i didnt practice. im in the reckoning for the dutch team, u19 so i should practice. yeah a front foot cut i was also thinking bout that. i lose my head when going back to cut. but remain it while pulling/hooking. thx vry much for your tips. any tips for chucking the ball ? like said before ?

Thats a hard one to cure chucking the ball. I started to chuck the ball when bowling during my last few seasons of cricket and never really got it fixed. Personally i would leave it as it is until someone bans you from bowling if it hasnt already happend. I dont know if your a good bowler or not but it sounds like your a decent batsmen so maybe you should just stick to batting.

The only tip i could really think of is breaking the action into small segments and practicing keeping the arm straight throught the final stages of the delivery. Start of without the ball, just practicing each segment of the action on the spot, then slowly build up into a full bowlng action, bowling the ball. Keep getting filmed and review your action to see how you progress if you've got availability to that equipment.

Try bowling a little more "round arm", sometimes the throwing can come from your arm coming from behind your head.

If you find that you're not "watching the ball", then instead of looking at the ball, try to watch the seam. Makes you watch the ball even harder.
