Reminds me of Jim Maxwell's commentary on Cricket 2004... "The on drive is one of the hardest shots to play, and he is one of the great exponents of it".
Let me guess, that's said regardless of the batsman who plays it?

20 or 30? I was thinking ten times that amount!

A short term exercise like that won't really affect your batting instinct/subconscious much at all - you need to do a damn sight more than that (muscle memory etc)

Have you got MSN messenger?
Ah - no wonder it didn't work that well! I though it wouldn't have much effect - I did Sports Science AS Level for long enough to know muscle memory takes a long time to start working. I only really wanted to see whether there was any one individual movement which would sort me out - when I was having problems getting forward, all it took was a little front foot movement and that sorted me out for good. It was a long shot that there would be one thing in particular that was wrong, I knew that any deep-rooted technical problems would be likely to take a lot longer to solve. The reason I only did 20/30 throwdowns is I'd like to have done a lot more, but the guy giving me the throwdowns is a bowler himself, who was looking to actually have a bowl, rather than spending the whole time throwing balls to me. I'll get a few more in today hopefully - got a full 5 hours available for a net if I need it, 2pm to 7pm.

Afraid I don't have msn messenger - my email is trueblue9997@hotmail.com though, if you want to get in contact for any reason.

Thanks for all the input guys, this is extremely helpful. I'll put some of this stuff into practice at nets today.

haha, yeah Jim also said 'The french cut, they practice that shot in the nets' and makes words up that sound ridiculous. I think someone should take him aside and tell him a little about cricket.

I have the same trouble at the start of every season when I slip back into bad habits. Simple thing with batting, your head leads everything that your body does. Try and stand up a lil straighter at the crease, and consciously move your head into the line of the ball, and that'll drag your feet along with you. That means that if the ball is on the leg stump, your head should be over leg stump, and your foot on leg stump. Best advice I can give, I guess. Its what I get told to do, pity I can't put it into practice.
