Nathan Lyon

Whatever it takes!!!
He is pretty likeable in his interviews. And it is very brave what he did. I still think it was pretty foolish given what had to be gained wasn't much. I know if they win today by 15 runs or 20 runs, it will seem like it was the difference but that is just hindsight always being 20-20. AFAIC, it was an unnecessary risk with very little to be gained.

I think Lyon batting is more than then 15 runs they put on. It was about keeping England in the field just that tiny bit longer. It was a 1% type of thing - Duckett could have been out 3rd ball, Dunkley and Pope both went before the team total hit 15 - perhaps Lyon coming out messed up their mental energy, perhaps they are just **** and would of got out cheaply anyway - but what was foolish about Lyon batting? It now means England need 15 more runs, and also had to bowl 5/6 more overs than they probably would of liked.

Lyon doesn't need to front up to his groundskeeping job on Monday, so batting with an injury as a professional sportsperson doesn't really smack of foolishness to me.

The fact that he could have been hurt more and even concussed mate, I am worried it has to be spelt out.

Why was the risk of him getting concussed any greater than if he wasn’t injured? He smoked them

He could barely stand plus 100% of the deliveries bowled were short. Definite risk of getting sconed if the English could bowl quicker than 125kph.

But then again think about how it would reflect on England. Bouncing an injured tailender. Win win for Lyon. Apart from getting clocked in the head that is.

I think the line that Lyon was particularly brave or courageous by batting is nonsense.

Any player would have the same if needed. Players have come out bat with broken arms in the past .

Yeah your right, because other players would come out when they can't walk means Lyon doing it was of zero note.

At least the keepers of the spirit of cricket didn't bowl just short balls at him to help reduce the risk of any further injury.

Its just like Ponting said imo, just cos tailenders suck doesn’t mean you should be forced not to bowl short stuff at them.

(the short tactic was obviously utterly abysmal at the end though, game would’ve ended much earlier if they bowl at the stumps)

I don't think you shouldn't be able to bowl short at tail enders but equally I don't think the barrage that they often face is OK either.

Yes they have all the protection but as we've seen preciously, this doesn't always prevent serious injury or worse.

All teams do it but was there really any need for Anderson to be bombarded today like he was.

dont remember 100% but could of sworn England bowled aggressive as to Lyon and barely any deliveries at the stumps

Lyon probably plays the short ball better than anyone on either side who’s batted eight or lower this series tbh

He actually swivels on his pull shot. He's a #11 so he obviously can't do it properly - he hits it at catchable head height - but he doesn't do that really annoying thing many modern batsmen do where they just stand there, feet planted, and swat at the ball.

FWIW somehow Rohit has so much success with it. He keeps getting out to it but its just funny how successful he is with the front foot pull. Shows what an amazing talent he is as far as hand-eye goes.

Doesn't Rohit swivel on his right leg while lifting up his left knee?

in a boxing match if one of the boxers are too concussed to fight then it's actually the referee's call to stop the fight. maybe the umpires should have taken some responsiblity in this

Mate if the umpires could do that when they're worried about a batsman getting hurt they'd have pulled the pin on Harry Brook's innings.
