Swann was clearly not the bowler he used to be on that tour - his chronic elbow injury was clearly impacting him and he never played for England again.
Should he have stayed on tour, tough one as we don't know the full facts but I think he should have stayed to support his team mates unless there were really good reasons not to do so.
