Whatever it takes!!!
yeah.. maybe @Prince EWS can figure out a way to query batting averages against sub 25 bowling average bowlers for all batsmen. It is gonna take way too much time to add in the names manually in that query.

I am way too lazy for that. lol.

Yeah I can do that very easily in theory once I fix my code to deal with the latest cricinfo update.

btw all you had to do was delete the "Australia" as primary team, you didn't have to add every team in
Actually more accurate that way too, Kallis played 154 not 153 because of the world XI game not counting

But seriously someone has got to figure out how Kallis played nearly 3x as much against sub-25 bowlers than Ponting did. They would have had nearly identical opposition other than each other's teams most of the time but that should even out anyway because both had a sub-25 bowler in the team usually anyway.

This is really bugging me

Australian bowlers are not counted? SA bowlers are counted so Kallis ends up almost always playing with one. Ponting would have a lot more matches too if Australian sub-25 bowlers were added.

Hmm so it's just counted matches involving sub-25 bowlers? Even if they are in the players own team, not if they are just in the opposition? Kind of makes the whole analysis pointless doesn't it

edit: sorry the initial analysis was still accurate because it was only Aus batsmen, not pointless.

Yeah, Kallis has 35 matches if you take out Donald , Steyn , Pollock and fat glass cannon.

That makes sense. I would have assumed that if anything SA played weaker opposition on average than Australia during that time period, particularly more against minnows, hence expected Kallis' to be a lot lower than Ponting's.

Yeah but that list, i assume, just shows where at least one bowler averaged sub 25. Imo, one bowler going at sub 25 does not a great attack make. Imo you need at least two (or two reasonably close say 25-28). Any chance you can show where at least 2 bowlers are involved???
I wish I could. Unfortunately it seems you can't filter individual Test matches on statsguru unless I recorded the stats manually.

"Involving any of the players" so that can be players from your own team too. Kallis always had Donald/Pollock/Steyn/Philander playing with him I guess

Chris Woakes

Hon mention: 17* (13) vs Oz, The Oval, 2013
Almost won an Ashes Test on debut before those cheating Aussies bullied the umpires into calling the game off for bad light. [citation needed]

#5: 35* vs Pakistan, Lords, 2016
In between taking 11 wickets in the match, batting at #8 he also showed the England batsmen that it was in fact possible to not suck against Yasir Shah (a lesson that the top order sadly would not take on board in their second innings).

#4: 52 vs New Zealand, Auckland, 2018
Batted into the final session of the fifth day trying to save a game in which England had been rolled for 58 in their first innings, before finally succumbing honourably to Wagnerball when left with just Broad and Anderson for company.

#3: 66 vs Sri Lanka, Lords, 2016
Came out to bat with his side on a precarious score of 227/6 in the first innings and added 144 with Bairstow for the 7th wicket. England made 416 in the end.

#2: 137* vs India, Lords, 2018
Again, England were wobbling when he came to the crease, the score 131/5. Woakes proceeded to score more than India managed in either of their completed innings.

#1: 84* vs Pakistan, Old Trafford, 2020
This time the game situation for England was worse still: 117/5 with England chasing an improbable 277 in the 4th innings. Enter Chris Woakes. A huge partnership with Buttler turned the game around, Woakes then marshalling the tail all the way to the line after the stand was broken. A nailed on loss turned into a win which decided the series. WAG.
It was probably one of your additional 2 clutch innings you could think of, but I wanted to shout out his 95* (92) coming in at 82/6 in that ODI that Plunkett hit a 6 off the final ball to tie
