Wouldn't a Possible's vs Probables be a better test for the up and comers?

So if the NZ squad is:

1 Fleming
2 Astle
3 H Marshall
4 Styris
5 McMillan
6 Cairns
7 Oram
8 McCullum +
9 Vettori
10 Mills
11 Tuffey
12 Butler
13 Cumming

And say the 'form' team is:

1 Papps
2 Ryder
3 Fulton
4 Taylor
5 Vincent +
6 Harris
7 Wilson
8 M Walker
9 Scott
10 B Martin
11 Walmsley/ C Martin

Walmsley really, Mason would be ahead of him
Wilson should bat ahead of Harry
Ryder can't even make the CD team
Vincent

Sorry Anzac, I can't agree with this at all. The whole idea of a Nth v. Sth match should be about creating a step up; a genuine contest with better players, a great pitch and more public glare.

my main concern is the amount of cricket the international players are exposed to.......hence my suggest at resting those established internationals.........

to get a true indication re the potential worth of the up 'n comers this is why I suggested a 3 match series trial followed by a 1 off match including the internationals.........

I went for the mixed teams (I called them possibles / probables following on from the RFU trials - but you can call them Heckle & Jeckle if you like) so as to avoid the problems you later mentioned in a later post........

Yup, thats for me too. :D

Nope, their techniques are different. For one, is an opener and the other is not.

He was joking. There is clearly a difference in their facial features. Their fielding skillsare different. Hamish is the better in ring fielder.

No. Not just my family. It's proven that twins don't all have the same characteristics. Even if their technique is the same, it doesnt' mean they have the same temperant etc.

Sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned you then.

Eh...why not? Who else would you hand the gloves to? Nevin? Hell no.

Giving Vincent the gloves allows for another player in the team, like a Taylor or Scott. It's not a bad idea.

Him being a keeper won't make him a jack of all trades. He's a part time keeper and kept for Auckland before he got injured.

The whole point of this OD trail is to put the young players up against the best in NZ.

Far out, he's the Golden One.

No. Marshall has played some good innings this season. I never said if he scored runs he wouldn't be included. I was saying if James wasn't scoringany runs and still picked for the NZ team based on Hamish. That would be unfair.

hey but at least we can have some fun & a laugh about it all now....;)

re J Marshall - I hadn't picked him as I thought he'd not shown anything in the Shield, although he had some form early on in the Championship I thought........

my interest in James is the same as any other young player who had been selected & had some measure of success at a higher level, and had then apparently been discarded - like Franklin at Test level, even tho' James does not have full international selection. It just so happens that the catalyst has been his twin Hamish.

As I said I'd also heard that their temperaments & technical abilities were much the same.....

I had Nevin in the team as 'keeper / opener because I wanted specialists in the key roles and to mirror the selection of Papps - if you look at my Sth squad I have not selected B McMullum & intended to have 2 'keeper openers to compare head to head......I consider Papps as still being a specialist as he was THE 'keeper for Canterbury until this season, and it appears he still keeps in the Shield when McCullum is on ODI duty....
like you however I have no interest in selecting Nevin for full internationals but wanted to use his experience & 'known quantity' as a yard stick.......

Vincent needs to be let alone to concentrate on his batting IMO - once he's got it on song again & established in the squad as a middle order player then he can be used as a backup 'keeper if there are no others in the squad (presumably Tests as I would curtrently have both Papps & McCullum in my ODI squad)......I was aware he had been used as 'keeper in internationals (ODIs?) & at State levels, but I think he has had too much bits & pieces to do / cover in both squads - hence my jack of all trades comment.......

see my earlier post re 3 match trial series & 1 off with the internationals.......

hadn't heard Wilson called Goldie b4.........wasn't aware of his nickname.....

OK, obviously you haven't seen any of the Auckland bowlers going about their work. Walmsley is one of the leading wicket-takers in the competition.

Like you said to Anzac...."DO SOME BLOODY REASEARCH BEFORE YOU POST CRAP LIKE THAT!!!!"

Wilson ahead of Harry? No. Harry doesn't like the burden of coming in too late and going for the big ones. Wilson would be better coming in late. Wilson has yet to post a big score. (over 100).

Ryder can make the CD team. But he and the staff at CD just don't get along. He's got promise so why not select him in the SOO?

Vincent aye. Laugh all you can SM. He's done better than Gaffaney, Lawson, Hopkins, Wasim, McKenzie this season. Hmmm....still laughing?

Ryder has not been playing because of disclipinary reasons with his district side & so C.D decided to drop him.
And then against Otago the other day he was ruled out with injury.

How good a form is Peter Fulton in at the moment?

something like 63*, 73*, 78, 72 & now 115*

now thats consistency.

Fulton has scored 3 x 50s and 1 x 100s this season.

His OD average has ballooned to 40.00 now!

It was at 18.00 at the start of the SS!

He's in bloody good form.

He wasn't in the starting XI and I heard Steve Davies saying that Ryder had an arm injury.

And SM, what about Walmsley? Waiting for your answer...

Good to see Butler pitching it up more today.

Yeah Butler's been bowling well, but the dismissals i've seen from Auckland have been crap.

Hitchcock exposed all 3 stumps, Adams just tried to wog & the rest of them have all edged to the keeper with limited footwork.

Latest updates at nzcricket.co.nz say that Ross Taylor is 46*, with C.D 155/2 after 25 overs.

At the moment, the 2 teams I really enjoy watching are Canterbury & C.D

Before Fulton started his run of 3 consecutive 50's & now the hundred, he did score 40 so his run of form has been going for awhile now.
