Murali's action reported to ICC by referee Chris Broad

Who didn't see this one coming, then?

I doubt the 'conspiracy theory' theory (heh) - but if I have a theory myself - it is that whenever Murali comes up with a new delivery (theoretical or otherwise), there will be conspiracy theorists who view it as a comspiracy that their theory about it being a theory about conspiracy is just that - a conspiracy.

<quack> You git. You just stole this week's diary entry.

Being reported doesnt prove anything YET.

If he is found to be really quite dodgy. what will the consequences be.. After all he already has 500 odd test wickets... Seems a bit pointless to me...

There are some conspiracy theorists in some quarters who predicted that this would happen at the end of this series, in order to deprive Murali of the world record.
And those theorists would be 100% wrong because he can still play on anyway :P

And Warney deserves it more?

Of course, not only has Warne reinvented a dieing art, but he has done so on pitches not as friendly to spin bowling...

I never said anything like that, but since this reporting doesn't effect the fact Murali's going to Zimbabwe in April and needs about 3 or 4 wickets - how's it going to stop him overtaking Walsh?

I'm inclined to agree from a pure cricketing viewpoint.

I know - I clicked 'quote' against the wrong message

I am a big fan of Warne but I wouldnt give Warne the 'credit' of reinventing leg spin.

All through the 60s n 70s and 80s, there have been Indian and Pakistani leg spinners (Subhash Gupte comes to mind instantly)

The thing was people took notice in other countries when Warne took wickets with his leggies.. so how did he reinvent it? There is no right hand leg spinner in the South African team or the Kiwi team or the English team..

Warne made leg spin a bit more fascinating like it happens when you see a Lilee bowling, every one wants to bowl fast.. nothing more.. nothing less..

Warne made legspin fashionable again - he was able to popularise it with his blond locks, 'beach bum' attitude and the like - he made it 'cool' to be a twirly again.

For me, spin in general is synonymous with the Indian team of the 1960's and 70's - Bedi, Prasana, Chandra, Venkat - but that's cos I'm old.

Spin is as important a part of test cricket as pace bowling IMO.. most of the world ha a very bad spin attack again after having good bowlers in the 90s.. only Pakistan seems any good in this regard right now.. for me spin will always mean foxing the batsman.. thats because I am old cricket romatic..

Good for you.

I love watching quality spin (mind you, I love watching quality pace too) and yearn for the days when a decent twirly makes an impact for England.

Yes, but they were nowhere near as successful as he has been.

You so must check out what people feel about Abdul Qadir and Chandra..

Also, there werent as many tests in those days and batsmen played less attackive due to lesser/no impact of one dayers on tests. Dont go just by records.. Trueman could get 500 wickets if he played today..

No matter what people thought of them - Qadir (236 @ 32.80) and Chandrasaker (242 @ 29.74) were neither as prolific nor as good average-wise as Warne.

Warne also came in at a time when spin bowling was not regarded too highly, and did a fine job in changing that.
