Gayle for me is underrated in ODIs and overrated in tests. hes nothing more than a glorified slogger who is capable of murdering a decent attack on his day on a very flat pitch, but when it comes to scoring runs against quality attacks on pitches that offer even the slightest bit for the bowlers he comes up looking very ordinary due to no footwork and a tendency to play away from his body. As such he'd struggle to make it into almost every other test side in the world and his average is very ordinary when you remove his record against bangladesh, zimbabwe and his triple ton against SA neither of which deserve to be counted anyways.PhoenixFire said:Basically, because of some of the stuff he has done which has gone unnoticed. One of the only players to hit 6 4s in an over, and not many people remember he has a test triple century against a fairly good SA attack.
In ODIs however his bowling is extremely useful, hes really good in the slog overs and hes a somewhat improved version of carl hooper with the ball, doesnt turn it much but just bowls it quick and flat. His eye and his ability to slog make up for his rather poor technique and make him very useful in the first 15 overs of an ODI.By and large hes one of the better openers around the world in ODIs ATM.
