Most intimidating fast bowler of them all?

International Coach
Ted McDonald worth a shout?
For sure, him and Gregory in 1921 gave the Poms are working over. When the Aussies started to complain about Bodyline in 1933, the English were still talking about the "going over" their team copped in 1921:)

Typical of the mint-sucking Poms to reprise things from years earlier

No contest for that - Sylvester Clarke - absolutely terrifying from the safety of the stands - what the poor bastards who had to face him from 22 yards felt I shudder to think
Years ago, I attended pre-season practice at the Oval and was batting against Sylvester in the nets when the players were told to get changed into jacket and tie for an official photo

Sylvester went ballistic saying that there was no way he was going to wear a "fooking toy", went off his long run and bowled a couple of beamers at me full tilt

Just wtf I had to do with it is anyone's guess and I hate to think what he would've done to someone he didnt like because I actually got on quite well with him

I'm not easily impressed but :notworthy for that

Sadly I only got to the Oval to watch him a few times. He was always quick, and always nasty, but on one particular occasion there had been some speculation in the press that he chucked - he was a good deal quicker and much much nastier that day

You wouldn't have been too impressed with my reaction - stunned mullet when facing the first, diving for the side of the nets during delivery stride of the second followed by a whole lot of racist tinged expletives

At the time, I was a baby-faced 18 year old who didnt say a word and I dont know which one of us was more shocked by my reaction

Don't sell yourself short mate - the mere fact that you were still there for the second one is going way above and beyond the call of duty

The Tiger King
Colin Croft

"Genuinely nasty," wrote Imran Khan. "He didn't seem to enjoy playing cricket very much." Built like a lock forward, Croft bowled from wide of the crease spearing the ball towards the batsman. When Australia met Guyana in 1977-78 Graham Yallop fractured his jaw trying to hook Croft and Bruce Yardley was hit on the head. The tourists' manager Fred Bennett described Croft's bowling as a "direct contravention of both the law and the tour conditions".

Definitely crazy but a lovely guy

I only knew him for about 3 weeks and in that time he tried to kill me, his "wife" tried to kill me (didnt take kindly to me trying to distract her whilst he had his other "wife" in the change rooms) and I got hideously drunk on more than one occasion

Saw him one more time at Heathrow about 10 years later and he was just the same

Sylvester Clarke, Roy Gilchrist will be top two for me.
Also Aussie attack of 1921 tour said to be fearsome too.
