Most boring batsman in the world

For those who watched cricket in the 70's - the cake for putting you to sleep in descending order :@ :@ :

England : Geoff Boycott & Clive Radley (a 2 hour doze would mean missing about 20 runs) and Chris Tavare

Pakistan : Mudassar Nazar & Younis Ahmed

Australia : John Dyson & Paul Hibbert

India : Chetan Chauhan (except for his fierce square cut) & Pronab Roy

Windies : Larry Gomes & Sew Shivnariane

New Zealand : John Morrison & John Wright

Interesting on Radley, I don't remember his test career, but remember him as a top one-day player for Middlesex.

Yet you seem to be right:

Tests 8 10 0 481 158 48.10 1368 35.16 2 2 43 0 4 0
ODIs 4 4 1 250 117* 83.33 367 68.11 1 1 25 0 0 0

Strike rate in bold.

Mind you with that record he was unlucky not to play more for England in both forms of the game.

Boycott might have been boring but he was very effective.

I guess that I wouldn't find some players boring because they have a good looking forward defensive makes good viewing for some people up to a point.

The boring players for me are the people that make no attempt to make runs in a selfish manner. A player in an innings may be striking at sub 40, but it might be a really good battle, on a fast grassy ppitch and so on, so it depends on the situation.

I remember Clive Radley dour's batting in NZ in 1978 when he put everyone to sleep - still Boycott beat everyone down in the 70's and in that series as well ...Botham had to run him out

Those who have mentioned Yousuf and Mahela are probably on drugs, for me it is Taufeeq Umer.

Dhoni, Afridi.

No, really. To me, boring does not equate to defensive. Boring is knowing that chances are they'll play a stupid shot and ruin everything.

You don't know how many runs Dravid or Ponting or Tendy or Lara will score. Some are defensive, others are offensive, but they are exciting because you know you might be watching something special.

Completely agree

IMO pretty much every shot Afridi hits could be called stupid, yet whn he succeeds it's brilliant attacking batting and when he doesn't it's just plain dumb.

Its not like Afridi has an average of 6 though. The man scores runs, and in the end thats whats important.
Last 10 ODIs, average 5.57, highest score of 23.

Last 20 ODIs he averages under 11 with a highest score of 34.

The man may score runs but with his prolonged run of poor form he may even struggle to get into the England team (only joking)

I think there's a charm about rock solid defence mixed with classic pull shots and perfectly-executed cover drives.
Well why not say that when people mention Kallis? There's little difference IMO.

Kallis and Dravid are two of my favourite batsmen going around, but I see little difference between their "boringness" and yet Kallis cops all the flak over it.

I think the difference is that Dravid seems to be able to accelerate when necessary whereas Kallis appears to be playing only for his average.

I am not saying I agree with this sentiment, but thats what people think when watching their bat.

Mohammad Yousuf once went up to Mark Richardson and remarked that he was the third most boring player he had ever seen, after Boycott and Atherton. After Richardson scored his century, Yousuf said, "Please forgive me. I have badly misjudged you. You are THE most boring player I've ever seen." :D

Personally, Simon Katich has cured my insomnia.
