Mohammad Yousuf vs V.V.S Laxman

while laxman is slightly more elegant, m. y is definitely more compact and slightly more consistent too...will have to go with m. y on this one...

tbh I thought it would have been VVS easily.

To me it is much more important that players step up when needed the most and VVS is really a big match player. Shows up a lot of times when he is needed.
also goes missing a lot of the times when he is needed too. Looks utterly hopeless in a few innings then pulls out a nice one. Not much consistency in his batting at all.

To me, VVS is elegant, stylish, destructive on his day and always shows up when the team needs him. He's India's crisis man and a beautiful batsman to watch.

MoYo had a long, fairly average career apart from one purple patch where a bulk of his runs were scored on flat decks.

Might be a bit harsh, but VVS for me easily.

Laxman by some distance for me. Pure poetry in motion at the crease. Excellent in the clutch and a brilliant slipper as well.

He's fairly consistent. Biggest problem is inability to make big scores IMO ...

Good thread

Yusuf had his peak cut short, right when he was at the top of his powers he decided he wanted to be captain and all that icl bs.

If he hadn't have gotten involved I am pretty sure he would have ended up with 30+ centuries and an average close to 60, he was that good at the time.

Laxman edges it for me based on longevity and good team character, but if yusuf never messed up I think he would be in the tendulkar/pointing category, because for a year or two his record was soooo good it kind of elevated him, still a classy player and one of the smoothest off drivers I have seen.

complete cobblers.

far better batsmen than moyo have not ended up with averages close to 60. his purple patch would almost certainly have been balanced out by a trough - happened to ponting, dravid, hussey and co.
