Mohamed Asif vs. Sajid Mahmood

Sajid Mehmood is far far superior in so many respects. Let me just enumerate the few that immediately come to mind.

1. He often bowls much closer to the good length spot in his own half of the wicket than the batsman's making it impossible for the uninitiated batsman to ever understand whats happening.

2. He has immense variety in his bowling. Look at a pitch map of Sajid's bowling after one of his rare long spells and you will know what I mean. He almost never bowls on the same spot twice where as Asif is so boringly monotonous bowling in the same stupid good length spot ball after ball.

3. Exactly the opposite of Anil Kumble, Sajid is a master fast bowler with a master spinner's frame of mind. He believes in buying his wickets. He will bowl a long hop delivery and the batsman's eyes will pop out as he goes back and smacks it between mid on and long leg. Sajid goes back and bowls another one and another one and another one. By this time the batsman is hooked. He is lulled into a sense of complacency. Just the kind of thing the wily Bishan Bedi did when he flighted the ball and if hit out of the park, flighted it a bit more.

Sajid bowles a longer and a still longer and yet longer hop. Unfortunately, Sajid is not as fortunate as Bishan Bedi was in terms of the types of captains he has had to play under. These stupid Englishmen, unable to understand the wiles and guiles of the Asian master craftsmen, will take away the ball from the great Sajid just when he was about to bowl his longest hop. Sad.

4. Finally, Sajid, unlike the stupid Asif, is never dropped from the team for silly things like doping. He always goes out of the English team with head held high for purely cricketing reasons; as befitting such a wonderful student - nay master - of this wonderful game of ours.
