I'm not doubting or making the argument he wasn't better than Holding, I agree it can go either way. Just asking why being left handed would have been an advantage?
It is compulsory for a batsman to face and dominate Right Arm Quick all time to get to top class cricket whereas it’s only in top class cricket when a batsman actually faces lots of Left Arm Quick. By that time it’s already too late to be quite as brilliant despite ofc being really good.

For Left Arm Fast Bowlers and even Batsman not being superior to Right Handers, I think it’s worth remembering only 10 percent of people are left handed. From my quick research that’s only 5 percent in Sub continent.

I have to say absolutely none of that makes any sense with regards to choosing one player over another.

But by that logic, Lara should be chosen ahead of Miller then?

My first post in this thread on having advantage meant on Davo having advantage against Batsman rather than anything to do with Holding. It had absolutely nothing to placing him over Holding at all.

I think Davo is ahead of Holding due to him being slightly better bowler rather than him left handed.

And that's absolutely your right.

Left handed batting is still a slight advantage (although less so than the past), because most right handed bowlers don't have an inswinger that they can use as a stock delivery to lefties ( thus functioning as an away swinger ). They have to depend on seam movement to get the ball away from a left handed batsman and create the most common sort of caught behind opportunities.

It seems that there is also some benefit to a lefty opening as opposed to batting further down the order, but I can't remember why. Maybe less footmarks for lefties to deal with at innings start?

I could understand if it was just top 20 bowlers, but what 20 pacers do you have ahead of Davidson/Holding (assuming you probably have at least one in there)
I did the thing, where I misread "pacers", to be bowlers. They are both borderline if you include only pacers.
