Two ATVGs from the easy batting era
16-1 was unexpectedI didn't thought it would be such a huge victory for Amla.....
Amla batted higher and has a better away record. Clarke averages more because he had much easier home conditions and retired just as batting began to get more difficult. What's the argument for this result ( gun beard aside )?
I don't have much of an opinion on this one, but didn't think it would be so one sided for Amla. Clarke to me seemed a very high quality bat, same as Amla, and he also won a bit more and had a higher strike rate as well, for whatever those two factors are worth.
Yeah but South Africa was a definitively tougher place to bat than Australia during the batting era. And Amla has the better away record. Then factor in the batting positions and it's not much of a debate. I don't think Amla is much better exactly but I think he's clearly better.Eh, I'd still characterize the vast majority of Amla's career as being in an easier batting era. Still, factors above could go some ways in explaining the difference in average. Just don't think it's big enough to swing it definitively towards Amla though.
