Meaningless and stupid cricket statistics

McCullum 101

A list unsurprisingly dominated by Kiwis and Keepers
Is that from debut, rather than successive matches played?

You would think wicketkeepers would get injured more than specialist batters. Or would need resting. It's not exactly fast bowling but it's harder work than standing at slip.

When was the last time a first-choice keeper had an injury that kept them out for say a month or more? Seems like they're quite durable.

I'm sure plenty do but those were the lucky ones to avoid injuries. The big bonus is it's hard to displace a competent keeper. A lot seem to get the job for life, even if their batting contributions are a bit below that of the batsmen. I could easily see Carey not being replaced til retirement or injury. They get a long rope

Yeah you never really hear about keepers being dropped unless they’re kinda crap with the gloves in the first place and have a batting slump

I'm really hoping the full story behind that emerges at some point to be told. There's something that we don't know and I really wish we did.
I actually don't mind Sarfraz - at least as a middle order bat, his keeping was always a bit iffy - but I think Rizwan was bordering on the best in the world. If they thought Sarfraz's batting form was irrestible they should've just picked him as a bat ahead of Masood or Salman. It was absolutely nuts, and like you I suspect there was some non-cricketing reason for it.

Was just checking up on Viv and Kohli and saw both had scored 2 doubles in a series (76 ENG, 17/18 SL respectively)

Only 1 player has scored 3 doubles in a series - Bradman (1930 Ashes).

Only 2 players have scored 2 doubles in a series multiple times, Bradman (1930, 1934, 1936/7 Ashes, 1931/32 vs SA) and Hammond (32/33 in NZ, 1928/29 Ashes). Also notable is that in that NZ series Hammond did that in just 2 innings. (obviously weak attack but still mighty, even the best Sanga did was 2 in 3 innings vs Bangladesh - and 6 in the other innings)

Following on from that, the only players to take 10 wickets in a match 3 times in a series are Barnes (twice) and Grimmett, and they both did so in their final series, Barnes also doing so in his joint-penultimate series (against SA in the Triangular tournament). Grimmett in fact took 10 wickets in each of his last 3 Tests.

Apart from Barnes, only Murali (3 times) and Warne (twice) have taken two 10-fors in a series more than once.

Bradman really does suck. Bastard.

From what I read it seemed partially rizwan's own call, felt like he wasn't performing enough in the format. I'll see if I can find the interview where he said that.

I'd have guessed that Ali Cook would have been on that list.

Most consecutive test matches with a result: South Africa (Jul 2017 - Dec 2022), 46 matches - 23 wins/23 losses amazingly. Won at least one test against every test playing nation (excluding Afghanistan/Ireland - didn’t play either team).

Next longest streak is Zimbabwe at 26 (05-17 sadly lol)

Current longest streak is England at 15 matches.
