Mcgrath retires from tests - but will play WC

International Regular
A fitting way fo a champion bowler to go out. He'll go down as one of the greatest pace bowlers of all time. His consistency, accuracy and determination has been incredible over a long and highly successful career for Australia. Good luck to him at the world cup. Hopefully he can take a lot of wickets and lead Australia to victory.

Fair enough.

I thought he might have given up ODIs long ago just to play Tests and look at England 2009 without the workload of one day cricket.

oh thought yesty he said that h e had no intentions of retiring

right time to bow out from the game i feel.... great to see him having a last hurrah at the WC

Warne will reach his 700th wicket soon , but more importantly he will in the next 2 Tests join Murali in the 1000 wickets in International Cricket Club. (needs 8 wickets more , Currently 699 + 293 = 992 wickets)

Macgrath needs quite a lot. And before the Ashes started he mentioned his desire to get 1000 wickets in International Cricket . He has a lot of work left to get there - unless he plays all the VB + all the World Cup games .
Currently 555 + 342 = 897 wickets - needs 103 wickets more.

Hopefully he will go out on top with a 5-0 Ashes win and a WC win. That would be a fitting end for a true champion.

Haha

Not really that sad, we all knew it was coming and had a fair taste of it this past year. Anyways, we will still be able to watch him play for a couple of months so I don't think we should start eulogising him just yet.

if u look at the Lords youtube vid... this guy wrote

"The subtlety in the way McGrath bowls is unbelievable, such an intelligent cricketer, the slightest change each time, always incredible line and length. He is the master. You can point to Dennis Lillee, or Wasim Akram, Alan Donald, Kapil Dev, Courtney Walsh, or Jim Laker. But McGrath makes them all look second class, only Ambrose is of comparison, even then totally different bowlers, Ambrose is more of a fiery, in your face, psycho speed bowler. McGrath is just magic."

aiight hes just a random dude but still it seems quite accurate :D

not to forget that people are going on about Batsmen getitng it easy nowadays with the flat tracks, short boundaries, trees as bats etc. Well has lived through that and has got 555 wickets at 21 a peice!!!!

----

n e hu all this and he was told when he was an adolescent that he couldn't bowl from his coach hahaha

Champion. I'll miss him

He's a fair try-hard at it though.

More-so than aussie himself.

Anyway I'm glad McGrath will play the WC. So many champion players will either retire from ODIs there, all of cricket, or just play their WC, should be amazing.

Would be a shame if McGrath got belted around in the WC, if I were him, then I'd retire at the SCG after this Ashes, on a high note.
