It's not though. This match has been pretty fun though SL never really stood a chance with their pace attack. I'd have loved to see a stronger bowling unit defend this score.

The big boys are in now. Probably should've brought Hasaranga on a lot sooner. Surely these 2 titans can't mess this up...

Can someone explain the deal with Mathew's white ball career? Up until about 2015 he was a nifty white ball cricketer but he's somehow managed to stick around despite being about 10 years behind the curve. He gets dropped at the start of every WC cycle but then gets recalled at the eleventh hour. He gave up bowling at some point but is now back to the role he had in 2009 as a genuine AR somehow.

To understand this situation, it's necessary to recognize that the cricket board of Sri Lanka is governed by the state. Although Mathews might have been expected to be removed from the team quite some time ago, it is evident that his inclusion is desired.

It's been really weird. Kimber did a video on it during the last ODI WC when he got called in as an injury sub and took those wickets vs england. He'de not bowled, or played at all since the 2019 WC. No idea why he suddenly started bowling again but it's been handy for SL.

He gave up bowling completely after he started getting injured a lot and got fat after his mid-2010s peak. Got dropped from white ball cricket entirely for being unfit and unable to run between the wickets then he got drafted into the 2019 WC as you said. I'm sure they had plans to move past him after that WC and he was getting dropped from the side as late as the ODI series against Afghanistan in 2023. I don't understand how he gotten back to the T20 side after being nowhere close to the squads for the last 2 WCs. Think he's bowled here and there in tests too recently, possibly in NZ. Think he even got dropped from tests for a while due to fitness issues so this new AR arc is bewildering.
