Match #11 - USA vs Pakistan - 6th June - Grand Praire Stadium, Dallas- Group A

The Tiger King
Why is he even the captain after the embarrassing WC. Even if he is supposedly a great bat his captaincy is totally negative. He has no sense of tactics and his on field behaviour especially his body langauge let's the whole team down.

He is by far the worst Pakistani captain I have seen and that includes luminaries like Salman Butt.
Yes, he's a terrible captain, but he plays politics quite well.

Iftikhar is averaging 16 at a strike rate of 118 this year. He's plumbing to depths lower than Asif Ali at this point. He's been backed to the moon for a long time and has 0 results to show for. Age is catching up with him and he's unable to deal with any kind of bowling. Previously his strength was hitting straight pace bowling down the ground but he's now missing full tosses on leg stump. Dropped a catch too. Pest.

Pakistan should just pack their T20 side with the eleven best fielders in the country even if they can't bat or bowl for ****. The way they "attack" the ball in this day and age is a symptom of a more general condition. How much worse can it get?

Now only for them to turn around and beat India on Sun...

Those Sharjah days when Sachin, Ganguly and Dravid had to work hard to earn their runs seem like a distant history now.

Cricket's left them behind. I don't mean this as a jingoistic India fan because fvk I'm anything but, but the brand of cricket they're playing would've been dated in '07.

They just don't have the players. Fakhar and Usman try to be aggressive but fail a lot. Iftikhar tries to muscle sixes but he has very limited range and ends up block-bashing his way to 12(10) type innings. Babar has no power game whatsoever. They suck but it's not for lack of trying. When they try to pick bashers they turn out like Asif Ali and Azam Khan.

What does the rest of the PSL look like? And is there even the willingness to give upcomers a chance?

PSL is now the third best league in February. SA20 and BPL had much better foreign players this year. Perhaps that's a factor. Azam Khan deserved his chance but we had 2 series before the WC and it was too late to dump him when they called him up. Iftikhar feels like a beneficiary of sunk cost fallacy. Salman Ali Agha, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel etc should've been trialled before the WC but we didn't have enough games between the PSL and the World Cup.

Tbf the other middle order options in the squad are azam khan, who can't keep or bat at international level, shadab, who's averaging ~20 with the bat in t20I cricket and has been for ages, and imad, who's injured.

Iftikar sucks, but they picked him because he had a great PSL in this role last year. Ditto azam khan, usman khan, and shadab. I think the bigger question is why there's such a disparity between the PSL and other leagues. Also, how do Pakistan expect there players to develop if there randomly cancelling there franchise gigs despite nothing else going on.

Usama mir has the potential to be shadab 2.0, but instead of playing in the blast like he was contracted to, he's sitting in Pakistan playing no cricket. It's beyond dumb.

That was quite some finish, although it dragged on. Cricket always seems to find a way to drain the excitement through inexplicable delays.
