Matt Prior at the Oval too. Identical dismissal. The one off Bopara in, IIRR, the First Test last summer was one of the great slower-ball dupes.

Correct, Cairns' has been on record on several occasions saying it was Stephenson who taught him 2-3 variations of the 'slower-ball'. Think it was playing for Nott's from memory.Cairns, BTW, had learned that particular slower-ball from Franklyn Stephenson, who apparently achieved a similar dismisssal in the C&G (it was Gillette in those days) Cup final at some point in the early-1980s, might've been 1983. To my knowledge, there is no remaining footage of that anywhere. EDIT: apparently the batsman was Brian Hardie.
Probably because all of his deliveries were slower-one's weren't they?Surprised that no one has mentioned Venkatesh Prasad. Seen some superb slower ones from him.
An argument could be made, yes.Probably because all of his deliveries were slower-one's weren't they?![]()
Was kidding Met, Prasad was a massively underrated bowler tbh & you're right about his variations. An argument could be made, yes.
Seriously though he had some brilliant subtle variations.
I'm pretty sure he once bowled an over comprising 6 slower balls, of 6 different types. That's pretty cool.Ian Harvey's was also excellently disguised - bowled out of the back of the hand.
Him and Simon O'Donnell were the guys that really brought the slower ball to prominence in ODIs and demonstrated how useful they could be.IIRC, Steve Waugh pioneered a number of variations of the slower before he did his back in
Yeah good call.Surprised that no one has mentioned Venkatesh Prasad. Seen some superb slower ones from him.
And if my aunt had a dick, she would be my uncle.Yeah good call.
had it not been for him Saeed Anwar would have averaged 1000+ against you guys.
And typified the fact that, sometimes, for Harvey it was more important to mix things up and have fun than actually do as best as he could.I'm pretty sure he once bowled an over comprising 6 slower balls, of 6 different types. That's pretty cool.
Yeah good call.
