yeah no, that's not what i said. becoming the best is definitely the players responsibility and it is all on them to get out there and learn and improve, but part of doing that is finding someone who knows a lot more than you and becoming their annoying second shadow.

it's really hard to learn anything without someone watching you looking for things to improve on and telling you how to improve on them. all those guys you name would have had people watching them and helping them.

Advice comes a dime a dozen. It is actually putting it into practice that is the real challenge.

During Dennis Lillie's time at the top the Australian team didn't even have a coach. Let alone specialist bowling coaches.

but in the first place you need the right people around you to listen to and put into place their ideas.

and if lillee really was self made and never ever ever ever ever got some coaching between the ages of 0-retirement, he achieved greatness in spite of, not because of, his lack of coaching, and i guarantee you he studied his art pretty bloody hard to get himself up there.

So you are telling me that if Marshall was around the WI side dishing out a few bowling tips then the WI would have the greatest bowling line up in the world? There is nothing stopping the WI from getting bowling advice from top bowlers around the world. It wouldn't matter because that isn't the problem. Just admit it.

......haha, so essentially you are proving my point. That no matter how many excellent and qualified coaches you bring in if the player doesn't have that willingness and ethic to learn the coaching staff is pretty useless.

WTF.....I think you totally missed my point. I was saying that having good bowling support can't be the major factor in the decline of WI cricket. I thought you were saying otherwise.

I never said Marshall wouldn't have made an iota of difference. In Afridi's case that is true though
