i had something to say regarding wearing helmets, but i think in the interests of the thread and its continuation, i'll keep it to myself

Helmets are gay. It's not as if some 16 year old fat kid that I play against is gonna knock my block off. Most of our age group are about as fast as Fred Trueman could manage these days, if you get a quick one he's Giles/Trescothick-ish. Why I need a helmet?

exactly steds. if a player feels confident enough that they're not going to be hit on the head, then they should be able to wear a helmet if they want. damn law suits and crap

Well, I've been conked on the noggin a few times, had top edges from sweeps fly up into my face, nicked hooks slam into me, and sometimes just been hit by genuine pace. At our age, there are still some bowlers who can get it up to 130+ km, so I feel a definite need for a helmet, and have always batted in one except if I take it off if its extremely hot, the first 20 overs are up, and the spinners are operating.

yeah, well in that case you might need it. but if you're happy enough without one, and are coming in lower down the order, like me, and are more likely to be facing either slower bowlers or worn out fast bowlers, then i don't think you should HAVE to wear one.

Andy, you have to wear a helmet? What comp is this in, because in my experiences helmets have always been optional here in Sydney

we're in cas... maybe it's just the competition, but i just got the idea from somewhere that it was a requirement everywhere.
