Hold up, Hastings' test came after the first bit of his ODI career - including that 2011 England series that left me with vivid memories of Jonathan Trott and another guy - Steven Davies. Didn't play from 2011 until 2015 though, the test being in that time. He was in really good Shield form too IIRC.
Trott's ODI career is so odd. 70 odd games (doubtless because of English spam) averaging over 50 yet I cant recall anything of note he did in an ODI.

If you know you know.

Good to see Dalrymple mentioned, I was going to but didn't think he was good enough to get a shout. Was part of the squad that won the tri-series down under in 07 which all true cricket fans know was the big one that winter.

He had a rather impressive series in 2011 actually, 6, 32, 84*, 102, 0, 137 and 14. Also had Liam Plunkett and a random appearance from Callum Ferguson. Michael Yardy was another guy from that series, my main memory was how remarkably little he turned the ball.

He was too slow wasn't he. Part of the old England ODI tactics when they were terrible and thought 2-130 after 40 overs was a good start.

Peter Fulton? 301 on dayboo in FC + the twin tons vs England. Barely remember him now.

Also, dunno if Ashraful was mentioned? What an absurd start and was just awful after that, had a ton vs Lankans somewhere in b/w. Just woeful now, totally.

Ashraful was pretty much woeful his whole career, just had brief innings of brilliance in between 45-50 crap ones

Ashraful had that little spurt in the 05 tri series against Australia and England where he got a run a ball century against us then a 50 ball 90 against England the following game. For a little moment I thought he was gonna be Bangas' Aravinda or something

really, really odd he ended up averaging sub 25 in both tests and ODIs. he played some good knocks against good bowlers

Genuinely a very good ODI bat for a couple of years there. Then got injured?
I don't remember this Ferguson supposedly being good thing, 2010/11 was the first season I really followed. He only played two matches in that series. Speaking of people who were good ODI bats, Cameron White was very useful from what I recall. Wasn't picked for ODIs after the 2011 WC except for random recalls 2015 and 2018. Way better than the likes of Forrest.

I remember Ferguson getting a bunch of not outs in his first batch of ODI games. batting average still ended up being pretty good

IIRC it was around 2009, and his injury happened in a Champions Trophy. He was averaging high 40s after 20 or so games, doing a real Bevan sort of role and genuinely looked right at home at the top level. Never the same after doing his knee

was indicted for spot fixing during the 2013 BPL, served some time out of the game, and has been meh in domestix since. He's 36 now and still playing though. Hit a couple of fifties earlier this year and a 150* in a FC game in Oct 2019.

Speaking of match fixers trying to make a comeback - Sreesanth has been picked for the Kerala squad for the upcoming domestic T20 tournament. Now that's a guy. Always really rated his bowling. On song he was spectacular.

Whatever it takes!!!
I thought Ferguson was a good prospect. He played that series Aus lost at home to RSA, right? And he was in his 30s by then?

yeah it's generally pretty dog to drop someone after only 1 test, especially if their failure included a run out
